Job Requirements

  • not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last five years
  • valid state driver’s license
  • fluency in the English language
  • no chemical dependencies or drug abuse
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • physically able to perform duties safely with or without accommodation
  • good distance vision with or without corrective lenses
  • ability to hear conversational voice with or without hearing aid
  • no physical conditions that pose hazards or interfere with flying as passenger
  • possess valid second-class medical certificate
  • pass FAA recurrent medical examinations
  • provide documentation of medical fitness from board-certified physician or pass individualized assessment for essential job functions
  • specialized experience equivalent to the next lower FG level
  • meet all specialized certification and flight hour requirements for the position

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • must hold an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter rating or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument-Helicopter ratings
  • valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument Helicopter ratings
  • minimum 1,500 total flight hours as pilot-in-command or second-in-command with 1,000 hours in helicopters
  • minimum 200 hours of flight instruction in a helicopter
  • minimum 100 flight hours or simulator time in helicopters as pilot-in-command or second-in-command within the last five years
  • not more than two flying accidents in the past five years involving pilot error

Job Duties

  • conduct rotorcraft and helicopter inspections to ensure regulatory compliance
  • evaluate pilot performance and aircraft safety
  • investigate incidents and violations related to rotorcraft operations
  • review operator manuals and maintenance documentation
  • provide expert guidance to aviation personnel on safety protocols
  • prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records
  • collaborate with other FAA offices and industry stakeholders to support safety initiatives
