Job Requirements
- Residency in the State of Colorado at time of application
- ability to lift 50 pounds
- experience in food preparation in school, residential, hospital, or institutional settings
- knowledge of special diets and texture modifications
- proficiency or willingness to attain proficiency in American Sign Language Survival level
- ability to stand, bend, lift, stoop, reach, and walk for extended periods
- use of personal protective equipment
- ability to perform food safety tasks and documentation
- effective communication skills
- commitment to professional development and teamwork
- ability to respond positively to feedback
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- two years of relevant experience in food preparation or food service in institutional settings
- knowledge of National School Lunch program procedures and regulations
- ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- proficiency or willingness to learn American Sign Language to Survival skill level
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- effective organizational and problem-solving abilities
- experience with food safety and sanitation standards
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- basic computer skills including email and production logs management
Job Duties
- Prepare designated food for meals
- set up the serving line and serve meals as needed
- mix dough, batters, and bake a variety of breads, cakes, cookies, and similar items
- ensure the salad bar is fresh for lunch and dinner
- finish, portion, package, and present products attractively
- read nutrient analysis and production logs to align food preparation quantities
- maintain kitchen equipment clean and safe
- coordinate food orders and grocery check-ins
- ensure proper food storage and sanitation practices
- check food temperatures and document HACCP logs
- communicate effectively with staff, students, and families using sign language
- attend sign classes and improve ASL skills
- document daily operations including food counts and inventory
- follow safety standards and proper personal protective equipment use
- resolve immediate food service issues and escalate as necessary
- comply with USDA and National School Lunch program rules
