Job Description
The hiring establishment is a reputable assisted living and memory care community dedicated to providing exceptional dining experiences for its residents, their families, and visitors. This organization prides itself on creating a warm, welcoming, and professional environment centered around compassionate care, high-quality service, and community support. The property emphasizes the importance of teamwork, respect, and efficient service to enhance the quality of life for seniors, particularly those with cognitive impairments like dementia. As an essential part of their food and beverage team, the Dining Room Attendant/Server plays a crucial role in upholding the community's standards and complying with all applicable federal and state regulations, including those pertaining to healthcare and safety.
The position of Dining Room Attendant/Server entails more than just serving food; it includes preparing and serving beverages such as coffee, soda, wine, beer, and cocktails in an appropriate and courteous manner. The server acts as the main point of contact for residents and guests during meal times, ensuring their orders are taken accurately and entered correctly into the point-of-sale system. This role involves assisting residents with menu selections, explaining meal preparation details, including ingredients and cooking methods, particularly for special daily menu items. The server ensures that food presentation meets the highest standards before serving and adheres strictly to proper serving etiquette, such as serving from the left side and clearing dishes between courses. Additionally, the server supports dining room setup, maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions, and helps with tasks like bussing tables, washing dishes, and managing inventory paperwork when necessary.
This position also demands flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours to guarantee consistent coverage. Communication is critical, and servers must respond to resident concerns with care, maintain awareness of residents' individual needs, and participate actively in daily meetings aimed at improving service. Servers uphold all safety procedures, including infection control and universal precautions, to maintain a safe environment for residents and team members. Furthermore, servers contribute to the community by supporting marketing efforts during tours and assisting other departments when needed. This role requires physical stamina, patience, and a genuine interest in working with seniors, many of whom may have cognitive challenges. Servers must maintain certifications such as valid Food Handler's certification and pass health screenings to ensure the wellbeing of themselves and residents.
Employment type typically includes full-time or part-time positions, with competitive compensation aligned with industry standards for assisted living and senior care food service roles. This job is ideal for professionals who are passionate about hospitality and eager to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults. The establishment provides opportunities for ongoing training and professional development, ensuring staff remain knowledgeable about best practices in service and care. This comprehensive role combines customer service, dining etiquette, safety compliance, and teamwork in a dynamic environment dedicated to enriching the lives of its residents.
