Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
at least one year of experience in a similar position preferred
understanding of dietary procedures and practices
interpersonal and managerial skills including the ability to follow oral, written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independent decisions when necessary
ability to read, write, speak and understand English
ability to read recipes and menus
organized and neat work habits
genuine interest in geriatric work
personal integrity and tactful dealing with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel
ability to work harmoniously with all facility personnel
good judgment in prioritizing tasks
discretion and protection of confidential information
patience, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
adherence to professional code of ethics
ability to communicate information concerning a resident's condition

Job Qualifications

Have an understanding of dietary procedures and practices

judgment in prioritizing tasks, duties and responsibilities according to established standards and policies
ability to be discrete and protect confidential information
patience, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and willingness to handle residents based on their maturity and physical level
adherence to professional code of ethics
ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition

Job Duties

Preparing quality food products according to standardized recipes and menus
suggesting menu changes and alternate items to utilize leftovers and other supplies
tasting and smelling food to determine quality and palatability
ensuring proper preparation, portioning and serving of foods according to standardized recipes
maintaining and recording assigned temperatures daily
directing and supervising dietary aides as appropriate
having food ready at the specified time and beginning meal service on time
