Job Description
Bridgeport Hospital, part of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), is a leading healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional medical care and treatment centered on the unique needs of each patient. As a patient-centered medical home, Bridgeport Hospital emphasizes coordinated, comprehensive care that places patients at the heart of their healthcare team. This commitment extends beyond clinical care to include the work and dedication of every employee, who is regarded as a vital member of the patient’s care team. The hospital’s core values—integrity, patient-centeredness, respect, accountability, and compassion—are ingrained in the organizational culture and steer the professional conduct and daily activities of all staff members.
At Bridgeport Hospital, quality improvement initiatives are continuously pursued to enhance access to and the delivery of healthcare services. Employees are encouraged to uphold these standards by actively contributing to creating an environment focused on continuous and comprehensive care. In this environment, everyone plays a role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors alike.
The Food Service Worker position at Bridgeport Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital’s patient-centered nutrition services. Reporting to the Food and Nutrition Supervisor or Clinical Nutrition Manager, this role involves the preparation, transportation, and delivery of meals to patients, ensuring that dietary plans are accurately followed and that meals are served in a timely and professional manner. Beyond meal delivery, the Food Service Worker is responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions within food preparation and service areas, contributing to a safe environment that complies with health and safety regulations.
This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about contributing to healthcare through supportive hospitality services. It involves direct interaction with patients and healthcare teams, requiring the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate compassion towards patients’ unique dietary needs. The role emphasizes attention to detail in assembling trays, operating room service functions, and adhering to sanitation and safety policies.
The position demands a commitment to hospital values and operational procedures. Employees must be vigilant in upholding a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by enforcing safety policies consistently. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed by supervisors or managers, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach.
The hospital prefers candidates with a high school diploma or GED and values one year of related experience, although training and support will be provided. The role requires moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, stooping, lifting, and handling materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally. Physical abilities such as good vision and hearing are essential to perform the job safely and effectively.
Bridgeport Hospital is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, providing accommodations when necessary to ensure all employees can perform essential job functions. By joining Bridgeport Hospital’s team, Food Service Workers become part of an organization dedicated to healthcare excellence and patient-focused service, contributing positively to the hospital community and patient care outcomes.
