Job Description
Gracedale Nursing Home, situated in a serene rural environment near Nazareth, Pennsylvania, has been a trusted provider of top-notch long-term care since the 1960s. Serving the Lehigh Valley and neighboring communities, Gracedale is committed to delivering rehabilitative, restorative, and custodial care that respects the dignity and enhances the quality of life of its residents. The facility prides itself on creating an environment that is not only supportive and compassionate but also cost-effective and efficient in its healthcare delivery. This dedication has positioned Gracedale as a preferred choice among healthcare facilities in the region, well-regarded by referral sources, residents, and employees alike.
The Dietary Aide position at Gracedale Nursing Home is a part-time role with hours from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM. The Dietary Aide plays a vital role in ensuring that residents receive meals that meet safety, quality, and dietary requirements. This position is responsible for various tasks ranging from food preparation to cleanliness maintenance in dining and kitchen areas. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Dining Services, Executive Chef, or Chef Manager, the Dietary Aide contributes to the overall dining experience through careful food service and strict hygiene practices. While not supervisory, this role supports the food service team by assisting cooks and maintaining high cleanliness standards.
Key responsibilities involve serving meals on a centralized food line, managing dishwashing duties including silverware and utensils, and keeping dining and kitchen areas sanitary and well-organized. The Dietary Aide also operates equipment such as toasters, coffee makers, and juice machines, ensuring smooth service delivery. Additional duties include peeling and washing fresh produce and preparing simple items like sandwiches according to specific instructions.
Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and be willing to participate in specialized Feeding Program training provided by Gracedale Nursing Home. The ideal applicant should be physically capable of standing for long periods, lifting weights up to 25 pounds frequently and sometimes more than 50 pounds, and working effectively in warm, moist environments alongside other staff. Compliance with food safety standards, such as wearing hair nets and gloves when handling food, is mandatory to uphold the facility’s hygiene policies.
The working environment includes exposure to some hazards like moving mechanical parts and moisture, and it requires a moderate noise tolerance. The role is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, making it eligible for overtime pay. Gracedale values equal employment opportunity and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, ensuring fair hiring practices regardless of race, gender, age, or other protected categories. This position is unionized under AFSCME Gracedale 1435 and offers a career track within the community service pay grade system.
