Job Requirements
- No minimum education required
- one year of food service experience in supervisory capacity preferred but not necessary
- ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
- ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- leadership skills with ability to work harmoniously
- tact and patience in dealing with personnel, residents, family members and visitors
- ability to make independent decisions
- knowledge of food procedures
- ability to follow oral and written instructions
- physical capability to lift/move at least 25 pounds
- willing to handle residents with varying maturity levels
- must not pose direct threat to health or safety of others
- ability to cope with mental and emotional stress
- ability to communicate effectively
- able to work in varied and sometimes challenging environment
- compliance with facility health policies including medical examination

Job Duties
- Process diet changes and new diets received from nursing services
- complete necessary forms and reports for Certified Dietary Manager
- inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diets are served
- coordinate food and nutrition services with other departments
- assist in establishing food service production line for timely meal preparation
- maintain and file menus in accordance with policies
- review menus prior to food preparation
- assist in standardizing work methods
- follow all food procedures and facility policies
- assume cook authority and accountability
- sweep and mop floors as directed
- prepare food according to standardized recipes, menus, and diet orders
- prepare and serve bedtime snacks
- ensure meals are palatable and appetizing
- prepare substitute foods for residents refusing served meals
- provide appropriate equipment and utensils with meal trays
- serve food per portion control procedures
- report occupational exposures to Certified Dietary Manager
- attend mandatory in-service training and workshops
- assist or direct scheduled cleaning duties
- dispose of food and waste properly
- prepare food following sanitary regulations
- follow infection prevention and control policies
- ensure safety regulations followed by all personnel
- maintain clean, safe department with proper equipment and supplies
- report accidents, hazardous conditions, missing or illegible labels
- maintain food storage areas clean and orderly
- recommend equipment and supply needs
- assist in inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies
- assist in food preparation for special meals and parties
- only make authorized food substitutions
- assist in serving meals timely
- work in facility food and nutrition service areas
- coordinate with other department directors
- participate in continuing education
- handle emergency situations including evacuation
- maintain safety awareness and report unsafe conditions
