Job Description

The Walker Art Center is a renowned contemporary art museum located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a rich history spanning over 125 years. As one of the most celebrated art museums in the United States, the Walker Art Center is known for its innovative exhibitions and acclaimed collections across the visual, performing, and media arts. The institution's mission is to empower people to experience the transformative possibilities of contemporary art and ideas of our time, encouraging visitors to imagine the world in new ways. The Walker is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in its workforce, reflecting the rich diversity of the communities and audiences it serves. The museum provides a collaborative and dynamic work environment where creativity and cultural engagement are encouraged and supported.

The Development Events and Stewardship Associate role at the Walker Art Center is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary ranging between $60,000 and $65,000. Reporting to the Director of Annual Fund and Operations, this position plays a critical role in planning, executing, and evaluating a wide range of events and experiences geared towards Walker members and donors. Responsibilities span across managing member and donor events such as tours, receptions, luncheons, dinners, and donor affinity group experiences, as well as supporting cultivation, stewardship, and campaign-related events. Additionally, the associate supports the annual fundraising event, Avant Garden, by assisting with planning and logistics alongside the Director of Benefit Events.

This role requires both strategic oversight and detailed event management capabilities. The Development Events and Stewardship Associate collaborates with colleagues in the Development team, interdepartmental groups, trustees, committees, vendors, partners, special guests, and volunteers to design and implement engaging events that foster donor and member engagement. The successful candidate will ensure members and donors receive exceptional service and enjoy meaningful communications and benefits that enhance their connection to the Walker. Moreover, managing day-of-event logistics and serving as a liaison with internal departments such as curatorial, event production, visitor experience, facilities, catering, and security teams are essential facets of this role.

In addition to event management, the associate will oversee a travel program by conducting research on potential domestic and international destinations and collaborating to develop itineraries. The position also demands active participation in cross-functional departmental meetings and initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of donor engagement strategies by staying informed about philanthropic best practices and the museum’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

This position requires a combination of creativity, organizational skills, and interpersonal abilities. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team within the fast-paced environment of a leading arts institution. The Walker Art Center values strong relationship-building skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and discretion when handling confidential matters. Familiarity with workplace technology, including CRM platforms and event management software, is preferred. The position involves some physical activities such as lifting up to 20 pounds and frequent walking and standing. Overall, the Development Events and Stewardship Associate is a vital contributor to the Walker's ongoing efforts to engage patrons through innovative programming and exceptional event experiences.
