Job Description

Sky Ranch is a well-established, year-round recreational camp ministry with locations in Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. The Development and Events Manager plays a vital role in supporting the ministry's mission by leading and assisting fundraising appeal efforts, managing fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual gala, and overseeing the support team. This position is critical to the ministry and contributes directly to the success of Sky Ranch’s developmental goals. The Development and Events Manager works closely with the Director of Development to design and execute communication pieces, video initiatives, and target lists for fundraising appeals. They manage all aspects of key events such as sponsorships, ticket sales, live and silent auctions, raffles, and scholarship appeals, ensuring smooth coordination from venue selection to volunteer management.

Additionally, this role involves developing strong relationships with individuals, foundations, business owners, camper families, and corporate sponsors, focusing on sustained donor engagement through events and initiatives like Cowboys & Cowboys. The manager also collaborates with the marketing team to create compelling video content and promotional materials for giving campaigns. Essential responsibilities include maintaining budget oversight, financial tracking for events, recruiting volunteers, and communicating progress and financial data to senior leadership, including the Director of Development and, in their absence, the President and CEO.

Working at Sky Ranch requires a blend of event management expertise, fundraising acumen, and a deep personal commitment to Christian values. This position demands excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to multitask effectively, and a professional demeanor when interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders including donors, board members, volunteers, clergy, and staff. Job Requirements

  • College degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years experience in development and event management
  • Prior fundraising experience raising at least $750,000
  • Experience with event planning, budgeting, revenue generation, programming, and venue coordination
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally
  • Ability to multitask and manage various responsibilities
  • Willingness to travel to Van, Texas as required
  • Commitment to Christian principles and ability to support Sky Ranch's doctrinal statement
  • Ability to pass background checks and child safety reviews annually
  • Active membership in a church aligned with Sky Ranch's spiritual beliefs
  • Professionalism in workplace communication and conduct

Job Qualifications

  • College degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience in development with familiarity of best practices including event management
  • Prior experience raising at least $750,000 through fundraising events
  • Preferred experience in non-profit, faith-based organizations
  • Demonstrated success in meeting ambitious fundraising goals
  • Capital campaign experience preferred
  • Solid grasp of all facets of advancement work including databases, major gifts, stewardship, and grant making
  • Proficient with office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, fundraising software
  • Basic internet and social media skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to prepare complex reports
  • Ability to exercise independent thinking and initiative
  • Ability to maintain donor confidentiality
  • Ability to travel for special meetings and events

Job Duties

  • Assist in appeal efforts throughout the year including design, communication pieces, target list and video initiatives
  • Manage all aspects of the annual fundraising gala and any other events the Development Team has throughout a year including tracking of revenue streams such as sponsorships, table and ticket sales, live auction, silent auction, raffle, and scholarship appeal
  • Oversight of all event aspects including but not limited to venue, audio/visual, décor, programming, print collateral, VIP reception, PR, celebrity communication, volunteers, and in-kind donations
  • Solicit and secure in-kind donations, sponsorships, participants, and volunteers for fundraising events
  • Prepare materials for special fundraising events such as invitations, sponsorship forms, bid sheets, and other related materials
  • Develop and build ongoing and new relationships with individuals, foundations, business owners, camper families, and corporate contacts for Cowboys & Cowboys
  • Work with marketing to develop video initiatives and collateral for giving
  • Monitor budgets, expense reports, or other financial data for Cowboys & Cowboys
  • Attend community events, meetings, and conferences to promote organizational goals or solicit donations or sponsorships
  • Recruit and provide oversight for volunteer staff for events
  • Communicate with Director of Development through required weekly updates and financial reports
  • In absence of Director of Development, the Development & Event Manager will report to the President and CEO
  • Maintain compliance with Sky Ranch's employee policies and procedures
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements
  • Perform other duties as required
