The Sales Manager role at Houston Marriott Medical Center/Museum District is a full-time, management-level position with an hourly wage ranging from $32.69 to $43.75 and eligibility for performance bonuses. The person in this position plays a crucial role in driving group sales and increasing overall revenue through strategic partnership with the sales office and area sales teams. This role involves booking group events, coordinating site inspections and visits for off-property sales staff, and ensuring a seamless transfer of booked business to event management for flawless service delivery.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years experience in sales and marketing, guest services, front desk or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major
  • 2 years experience in sales and marketing or related professional area
  • Availability to work full time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 4 years experience in sales and marketing, guest services, front desk or related professional area
  • OR 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major with 2 years experience in sales and marketing or related professional area
  • Large group sales experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to up-sell and close sales
  • Ability to coordinate and execute site inspections and customer visits
  • Knowledge of hospitality industry trends and competitor analysis

Job Duties

  • Pulls through business and achieves revenue goals for all opportunities booking through the sales office
  • Partners with area sales to identify new group/catering business and achieve personal and property revenue goals
  • Partners with the sales office to book group events within the group booking parameters
  • Up-sells products and services, with the ability to bring the sale to closure
  • Engages in proactive selling of all facilities to leisure guests and group planners
  • Assists with selling, implementation and follow-through of group sales promotions
  • Coordinates and executes all site inspections/visits at the property for out-of-market and non-deployed accounts
  • Provides accurate, complete and effective turnover to event management
  • Represents sales department at staff meetings and reports on sales activity
  • Attends pre- and post-convention meetings to understand group needs and obtain feedback
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to enable future bookings
  • Acts as personal concierge to clients while on site to help coordinate special requests
  • Monitors successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses and providing return on investment
  • Verifies that business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for quality service delivery
  • Implements the brand’s service strategy and applicable brand initiatives in all sales processes
