Job Description

Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing and comprehensive community support services in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, California. Established with a mission to uplift low-income residents through initiatives that foster stable housing and vibrant community living, TNDC manages multiple residential properties that serve diverse populations including families, seniors, and individuals facing housing insecurity. With a firm commitment to social equity and neighborhood revitalization, TNDC not only focuses on providing safe and affordable homes but also emphasizes enhancing residents' quality of life through supportive services such as case management, employment assistance, and community engagement programs. TNDC is recognized for its inclusive approach and strong community partnerships that help sustain long-term positive outcomes for its residents and the broader Tenderloin area.

The Desk Clerk position at TNDC offers an excellent opportunity to be a vital part of maintaining safety and administrative operations at one of TNDC's residential properties in San Francisco. This is a part-time, non-exempt role with a competitive pay rate of $23 per hour, working weekend day shifts from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the 34 Turk Street location. The Desk Clerk operates under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager or General Manager and plays a crucial role in monitoring visitor access and ensuring that the building environment remains secure and welcoming. This position is essential to TNDC’s commitment towards creating a safe, orderly, and supportive setting for all residents.

The core responsibilities of the Desk Clerk focus on screening and verifying visitors, overseeing front desk activities, responding to emergencies, and performing light janitorial duties to maintain lobby cleanliness. In addition, the role includes providing administrative support such as handling mail and invoices, preparing documentation, and assisting with tenant communications. The Desk Clerk must exercise good judgment, discretion, and a professional demeanor to manage sensitive situations effectively. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are vital as the Desk Clerk regularly interacts with residents, visitors, and staff. Additionally, the position requires the ability to work independently, remain calm under stress, and contribute positively to the safety culture of the building.

Candidates for this role will find themselves working in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment, where sensitivity to a multi-cultural, low-income population is important. TNDC values employees who demonstrate honesty, dependability, and a willingness to be on call when necessary. The role also requires proficiency in basic office software such as Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, and Outlook, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional language skills, conflict resolution experience, or familiarity with the Tenderloin neighborhood are considered assets.

Joining TNDC as a Desk Clerk means becoming part of an organization committed to social justice and community impact. This position allows individuals who are passionate about serving others and who possess excellent operational and communication skills to contribute meaningfully to one of San Francisco’s vibrant communities. It offers not only a stable and rewarding employment opportunity but also a chance to grow professionally within a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development.
