The Desk Clerk position at The John Stewart Company plays a pivotal role in maintaining security, communication, and overall building operations under the guidance of the Property Manager. This role requires the individual to actively monitor the flow of traffic in and out of the building, maintaining a secure and orderly environment for tenants, visitors, and staff. Desk Clerks are responsible for answering telephones, directing calls, and making emergency calls when necessary, exhibiting strong communication skills and attention to detail.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Desk Clerk completes essential administrative tasks including work orders, comment cards, visitor violation forms, and end-of-shift and incident reports, all while ensuring compliance with fair housing regulations. They handle visitor policies, check visitor identification, and manage the reception area to provide a welcoming and organized entrance for the building. Monthly duties include distributing resident mail daily and occasionally filling in for absent clerks to maintain operational continuity.

This role also demands familiarity with federal, state, and local laws, especially relating to fair housing guidelines, as well as sensitivity and a strong interpersonal aptitude when working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly those with special needs. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in customer service or property management preferred

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Answer telephones, direct calls, take messages and make emergency calls when situations arise
  • Assist with office responsibilities such as completing work orders, comment cards, visitor violation forms and other duties assigned by management
  • Inform visitors of visitor policy, check visitor ID and sign visitors in and out of the building
  • Complete incident reports to record unusual building activity
  • Distribute resident mail on daily basis
  • Fill in as requested when other desk clerks are absent
  • Testing of annual tuberculosis may be required as well as following Exposure Control Protocol for blood borne pathogens
