Job Description

This job opportunity is with a McDonald's restaurant that is independently owned and operated by a franchisee, separate from McDonald's USA. The franchisee holds the license to use McDonald's logos, branding, and food products but operates independently regarding employment matters. This means the franchisee is solely responsible for all aspects of employment, including hiring, firing, discipline, supervision, staffing, and scheduling. McDonald's USA does not participate in these processes and does not have control or oversight over employment decisions associated with this franchisee's restaurant.

The role available is that of a Department Manager, a vital position contributing to the smooth and successful operations of the restaurant. This position can be full-time or part-time with flexible scheduling options to suit a variety of lifestyles, including breakfast, lunch, late nights, and weekends. This flexibility aims to offer a job combination that fits the applicant's unique availability.

As a Department Manager, you will be deeply involved in leading key internal functions crucial to restaurant performance. These include managing employee training programs, food safety protocols, and inventory management. You will take initiative and drive tasks by delegating responsibilities to team members and reporting results back effectively. The role involves close collaboration with the General Manager to meet the restaurant's performance and quality standards across three main areas: the kitchen, people, and service.

In the kitchen, you supervise food quality, safety compliance, cost control, and the introduction of new menu items, ensuring that all kitchen staff are properly trained on production procedures. From the people perspective, you lead the hiring, training, and scheduling of restaurant staff to achieve sales targets and profit goals. In the service area, you guarantee a memorable guest experience by ensuring all team members are well-trained in service procedures and that high-traffic spots like the front counter, McCafe, and drive-thru are exceptionally organized for maximum efficiency.

Successful candidates will possess a commitment to workplace excellence and safety, a strong focus on customer service, effective communication skills, and the ability to anticipate customer needs. You must also be equipped to provide solutions and make timely decisions in the fast-paced environment typical of McDonald's restaurants. Experience in management positions, especially within restaurants, retail, or hospitality, is preferred but not mandatory for motivated and positive team players. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to qualify for the managerial role.

Department Managers at corporate-owned McDonald's restaurants enjoy competitive pay and are eligible for an impressive range of benefits designed to support long-term career growth and personal development. These include generous paid vacation, paid holidays, sabbatical opportunities, educational programs such as the Archways to Opportunity initiative offering high school completion and college tuition assistance, and medical benefits like dental and vision coverage. Additionally, employees can access flexible spending accounts, disability and life insurance options, paid leaves of absence, service awards recognizing dedicated work, employee resource connections, adoption assistance, and a matching gifts program.

While this description provides a comprehensive overview of the Department Manager role and McDonald's franchisee operation, it is not an exhaustive list of duties. McDonald's employees perform diverse daily tasks. The unique blend of responsibilities in this position requires adaptability, leadership, and a passion for delivering excellent customer service. By applying, you acknowledge the franchisee's sole responsibility for employment decisions and understand the information provided in your application will only be shared with the franchisee managing the restaurant, not McDonald's USA.
