Job Description
The University of Notre Dame is a prestigious institution renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and fostering a vibrant campus community. Situated in Notre Dame, Indiana, this university stands out not only for its rigorous educational programs but also for its mission-driven ethos rooted in Catholic values. As an employer, Notre Dame offers a unique environment where every team member is valued and supported, emphasizing holistic care—mind, body, and spirit. This dedication to nurturing the entire individual translates into a workplace culture prioritizing well-being, professional development, and a deep sense of belonging. Being part of Notre Dame means contributing to a community that strives to make a positive impact both on campus and in the wider world. The university hosts world-class research, shapes student experiences, and undertakes significant events and initiatives that uphold its storied tradition.
Within this vibrant ecosystem exists the Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division, which plays a pivotal role in managing the university's event coordination, hospitality services, and customer relations. The division supports a range of critical university functions, including academic programs, student life enhancements, research efforts, and ceremonial milestones that define the Notre Dame experience. The UOES division is currently seeking a full-time Demi Sous Pastry Chef to join its campus Hospitality department. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of a 'Best in Class' dining program, supporting Notre Dame’s mission and goals through culinary excellence.
The Demi Sous Pastry Chef is responsible for both leading and coordinating kitchen operations within the pastry section, employing accepted culinary practices and procedures. This position not only demands technical pastry skills but also leadership and administrative capabilities, such as managing staff schedules, facilitating training, and ensuring strict adherence to quality standards and sanitation protocols. As a key player in the culinary team, the Demi Sous Pastry Chef will evaluate team members' knife skills, identify areas for improvement, and maintain inventory controls alongside purchasing support. This role is ideal for someone passionate about baking and pastry arts, who can thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment, brings a team-first attitude, and is committed to upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and product quality.
Working at Notre Dame, the Demi Sous Pastry Chef will find a supportive atmosphere that encourages continuous growth and professional development while impacting future generations through exceptional service. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $19.75 to $23.00 per hour and requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Notre Dame is proud to be ranked the number one best large employer by Forbes, highlighting its dedication to creating an inclusive, supportive, and rewarding workplace. This role is not just a job—it is a career within a vibrant community where your work truly matters and contributes to the legacy and mission of the University of Notre Dame.
