Job Description
BJC HealthCare is one of the largest nonprofit health care organizations in the United States, serving primarily the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri regions. Founded with a commitment to community health, BJC HealthCare operates 14 hospitals and numerous community health locations, providing comprehensive medical services to urban, suburban, and rural areas. With annual net revenues of $6.3 billion and a dedicated team of more than 30,000 employees, BJC HealthCare has earned a reputation for excellence in delivering inpatient and outpatient care, primary care, community health and wellness, home health services, community mental health, rehabilitation, long-term care, and hospice. The organization is a leading provider of charity care and offers extensive financial assistance programs to ensure all patients have access to medical care regardless of their ability to pay.
BJC HealthCare’s influence extends beyond typical care services, with a strong emphasis on community contributions. It allocates millions annually toward community benefits, including charity care, research, emergency preparedness, healthcare safety net services, health literacy programs, community outreach, and regional economic development. Notably, BJC’s collaboration with the Washington University School of Medicine links patients to cutting-edge medical technology and scientific advancements, enhancing the quality of care available through its hospitals, such as Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
The role of Delivery Driver (HME) at BJC HealthCare plays a vital part in supporting patient care and recovery by facilitating the delivery, setup, repair, and retrieval of home medical equipment. This position operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotating weekend shifts as needed, offering a stable schedule within a healthcare environment dedicated to community service. The Delivery Driver is responsible not only for transporting durable medical equipment (DME) but also for assisting in assembly and providing training to patients on home infusion supplies. The position demands a high level of responsibility to ensure equipment is delivered safely and efficiently, and all operational protocols, including vehicle maintenance and inventory management, are strictly followed.
The Delivery Driver acts as a critical link between the healthcare team and patients receiving home care, enhancing patient independence and comfort. By completing patient and home assessments, the driver ensures that equipment is appropriately matched to patient needs and that all necessary documentation is accurate and thorough. This role requires both technical skills for equipment installation and repair as well as interpersonal skills to educate patients and respond to their needs effectively.
Joining BJC HealthCare means becoming part of a large, mission-driven organization that values community health and well-being at its core. Employees benefit from working in a supportive environment that prioritizes innovation, care accessibility, and employee development. This position offers not only a meaningful career in healthcare logistics but also the opportunity to contribute directly to improving patient quality of life within diverse communities. BJC HealthCare’s comprehensive approach to medical service delivery, combined with its robust community programs, makes it an employer of choice for candidates passionate about making a difference in people’s lives through dependable service and compassionate care.
