Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), specializes in delivering a wide array of food and food-related products to various customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG stands out by nurturing close relationships with clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who not only provide products but also valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. This unique approach fosters an environment where independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators can thrive and achieve their business dreams. The company prides itself on its commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, maintaining a safe and inclusive work culture that emphasizes rewards, recognition, and respect for its employees.
The company offers competitive pay ranging from $80,000 to $90,000 annually for the Entry Level Driver Trainee position, complemented by a Monday through Friday schedule that ensures home daily. Additionally, employees receive a sign-on bonus of $500 per week for the first 30 weeks, highlighting the company's investment in its team. Benefits commence from the first day and include health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among others. There are significant opportunities for career growth, making this role attractive for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the food distribution industry.
The Entry Level Driver Trainee role focuses on learning and gaining hands-on experience in operating tractor trailers or straight trucks primarily on an intrastate or interstate basis. The role involves various routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Trainees are responsible for delivering and unloading food products safely and efficiently, adhering strictly to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. An essential part of the role is professional interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring that all delivery processes go smoothly and all company standards are upheld.
This position functions within a team environment, requiring adaptability and cooperation to fulfill any duties assigned that best serve the company's interests. Formal training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program form a core element of the role, where trainees complete comprehensive documentation and learn essential driving and safety practices under the guidance of experienced driver trainers. Duties include performing safety checks, maintaining equipment, completing delivery documentation, and ensuring freight security throughout the delivery process.
Trainees are also expected to perform load verification, damage control, customer order verification, and proper paperwork handling. Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of trailers and loading docks is part of routine responsibilities, along with adhering to all legal and company requirements concerning hours of service and safety standards. This role sets the foundation for a successful career in transportation within the foodservice industry, emphasizing safety, professionalism, and customer service excellence throughout the training and future work assignments.
