Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor serving a diverse array of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a robust team consisting of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, Performance Foodservice fosters close, trust-based relationships with its customers. The company not only delivers high-quality food products but also provides valuable guidance on menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and overall business improvement. Known for its commitment to customer success and operational excellence, Performance Foodservice stands out as a trusted partner for businesses aiming to enhance their food service operations.

This entry-level Driver Trainee role is designed for individuals eager to start their careers in commercial driving within the food distribution sector. The position offers a competitive annual salary range of $80,000 to $90,000, alongside a structured Monday to Friday work schedule with the benefit of returning home daily. Additionally, the role includes a sign-on bonus of $500 a week for the first 30 weeks, making it a highly attractive opportunity for those new to the field or looking to gain experience in driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate or interstate routes.

The Driver Trainee is primarily responsible for learning the ins and outs of safely operating commercial vehicles as they assist experienced drivers and gradually gain hands-on driving experience. This includes local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Safety is paramount, with strict adherence required to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Trainees will engage in pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensure freight is properly loaded and secured, manage delivery documentation accurately, and maintain professional communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues. This comprehensive training program prepares trainees not only to drive efficiently but also to uphold the highest standards of customer service and operational compliance.

Being a member of the Performance Foodservice team means working in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that values recognition, respect, and growth. The company offers an extensive benefits package from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K matching, education assistance, and paid time off, supporting both personal and professional development. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals committed to a career in driving and logistics, offering a robust foundation of skills, ongoing support, and the potential for advancement within a dynamic organization dedicated to America's food distribution system.
