Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a broadline food distributor dedicated to serving a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company boasts a dynamic team of professionals, including sales representatives, chefs, and operational consultants who work closely with customers to provide tailored advice on menu development, product selection, and effective operational strategies. This approach not only delivers high-quality food products but also fosters lasting partnerships aimed at helping independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators achieve their business goals and successes. Known for its inclusive and supportive work environment, Performance Foodservice emphasizes a culture that rewards, recognizes, and respects its employees, ensuring a safe workplace and promoting growth opportunities for its team members.
The CDL-A Food and Food Service Delivery Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a critical position within the company’s logistical and operational framework. This role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and related products efficiently and safely across intrastate, interstate, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. The position requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, as the driver is not only responsible for timely delivery but also serves as the face and representative of Performance Foodservice in building strong relationships with customers. The role offers an average effective hourly rate of $38 after training and includes working a rotating four-day work week primarily within Monday through Friday, with occasional fifth days as needed.
Performance Foodservice supports its drivers with a range of valuable benefits from day one, including health and wellness programs, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Additionally, the company offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, which reflects its commitment to attracting skilled and dedicated professionals to its team. The delivery drivers perform an array of responsibilities beyond just transportation, including conducting pre- and post-trip safety inspections, ensuring proper loading and securing of freight, handling delivery documentation, performing customer interactions professionally, collecting payments when applicable, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in their work areas. This role demands physical capability as it involves lifting and handling freight weights that can vary from 10-35 pounds and occasionally up to 90 pounds, utilizing equipment like lift gates and two-wheelers.
Performance Foodservice embraces equal employment opportunity (EEO) principles and is committed to providing a discrimination-free workplace, welcoming diversity across all protected characteristics. The company complies with all applicable local, state, and federal laws to ensure fair treatment and professionalism. The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice offers not only competitive financial compensation but also a rewarding career path embodied by growth opportunities and the chance to support a vital part of America’s food distribution system. This job is ideal for experienced CDL-A drivers seeking a stable, secure, and respectful work environment where their role makes a significant impact on local communities and the foodservice industry at large.
