Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor dedicated to serving a diverse range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. This company prides itself on building close, lasting relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who provide valuable advice on menu development, operational strategies, product selection, and overall business improvements. Performance Foodservice goes beyond simply delivering quality food products; it aims to foster the success of independent restaurant owners and other foodservice providers by supporting their operational goals and ambitions.
As an esteemed part of the food distribution industry, Performance Foodservice operates with a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and operational excellence. The company emphasizes a culture that rewards hard work, recognizes achievements, and respects every team member, ensuring a safe and inclusive working environment. The company offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits including day-one health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase plans, employer-matched 401K, education assistance, paid time off, and more. Employees also benefit from growth opportunities and the chance to contribute directly to America's essential food supply chain.
The role of CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is vital within the nation’s food supply network. This position involves driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on various routes including intrastate, interstate, overnight, drive-and-drop, and shuttle routes to deliver food and food-related products promptly and safely. The driver acts as the face of the company by interacting directly with customers and ensuring product deliveries arrive in excellent condition and on schedule. Beyond just transportation, the role involves handling the loading and unloading of products, managing freight properly, and maintaining adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Performance Foodservice's CDL-A Drivers enjoy a rotating four-day workweek with occasional fifth days as needed, offering a balance between work and personal life. Drivers receive an average effective hourly pay of $38 after training and are eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus, subject to terms and eligibility criteria. The drivers are integral team members who enforce strict safety measures, conduct thorough inspections, maintain accurate paperwork, and carry out customer service duties including obtaining proper signatures and handling payment collections where required.
This position is ideal for individuals who possess a valid CDL-A license, have at least 12 months of commercial driving experience, and can meet state licensing and DOT health card requirements. Candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a clean driving record over the past three years, and successfully pass a post-offer drug test, criminal background check, and road test. Physical fitness to perform manual labor such as lifting and moving products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds is essential, as is experience or willingness to use equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates.
Preferred qualifications include experience with touch freight delivery or physical labor, knowledge of onboard computer systems and electronic logs, familiarity with handheld point of delivery scanning systems, and prior customer service experience. Performance Foodservice is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair employment practices in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws. This role offers drivers a rewarding career path marked by competitive compensation, excellent working conditions, and the opportunity to be a key player in America's food distribution system.
