Job Description
Don's Prepared Foods is a leading food manufacturing company based on the East Coast, specializing in the production of prepared gourmet deli salads, gourmet cream cheese spreads, dips, entrées, and more. As a family-owned business, Don's Prepared Foods proudly manufactures over 130 products under its three distinct brands: Don's Salads, Melanie's Medleys, and Artisan Deli. With a strong reputation for quality and taste, the company serves a wide range of customers who appreciate fresh, flavorful, and convenient gourmet food options. Don's Prepared Foods is committed to maintaining high standards in food safety and product excellence, making it a trusted name in the deli and prepared foods category. The company's Schwenksville, PA facility is a hub of production activity, supporting an enthusiastic workforce that takes pride in delivering superior products to customers across the region.
The current opportunity available at Don's Prepared Foods is for the role of a non-CDL Delivery Driver within the Transportation department. This position is a vital part of the logistics and delivery operations, responsible for ensuring timely and secure delivery of customer orders using a 25-foot refrigerated box truck. The role is hourly and non-exempt, with shift start times generally ranging from 2:30 AM to 4:30 AM, Monday through Friday. Employees in this role benefit from a consistent schedule without overnight travel, allowing them to be home every day. There is potential for overtime depending on company needs.
As a non-CDL Delivery Driver, you will play a crucial role in maintaining product quality by managing the temperature, cleanliness, and security of the refrigerated truck and its contents during deliveries. You will conduct daily pre-trip inspections and use GPS technology to adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) hours, ensuring compliance with regulations. Routes serviced include key areas such as Central Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York, and Baltimore, along with various local stops in Montgomery County.
The job also requires excellent communication skills to handle delivery paperwork, respond to customer inquiries, report any complaints or rejected items, and maintain ongoing communication with the Transportation Manager regarding route or schedule changes and any incidents. The position demands strict adherence to safety and compliance by requiring the maintenance of current licensure and medical certificates and immediate reporting of any motor vehicle violations. Food manufacturing and food safety experience is highly desirable for candidates.
The physical aspects of the job include the ability to work in a cold environment (approximately 35 degrees Fahrenheit), lift up to 50 pounds, and operate a pallet jack. Candidates must hold a current DOT Medical Certificate and have an excellent motor vehicle record. Prior experience driving refrigerated 25-foot trucks is preferred.
Don's Prepared Foods offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being and job satisfaction. Benefits begin after 60 days of employment and include multiple medical insurance options such as POS, PPO, and PPO HSA plans. Dental insurance is also provided, along with company-paid group life, AD&D, and short- and long-term disability insurance after 90 days. Supplemental insurance through Colonial Life is available, enhancing the coverage options for staff. Employees receive 10 paid holidays along with birthday paid time off (PTO), paid orientation, and access to specialized education and training programs such as Alchemy Education Training. The company fosters a culture of safety backed by a Certified Safety Committee, offers a 401K plan with company match to support retirement savings, and encourages employee engagement through referral bonuses, recognition programs, gifts, and awards.
Don's Prepared Foods is dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace and is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. The company emphasizes fairness regardless of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Applicants for the non-CDL Delivery Driver position must successfully pass a comprehensive pre-employment criminal background check and drug test. This role represents an excellent opportunity for highly motivated, responsible drivers who are eager to join a thriving food manufacturing company with a solid commitment to quality, safety, and employee development.
