The Deli Dishwasher position is a crucial role that supports the overall functionality of the Deli Department by ensuring that all dishes, pots, pans, trays, kitchen equipment, and work areas are clean and sanitized according to stringent health and safety regulations. This role involves working predominantly during closing shifts from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with weekend availability being a requirement. The dishwasher plays a key role in upholding hygiene standards, maintaining an orderly dishwashing area, and supporting other team members by assisting in food preparation tasks when needed. This position not only ensures operational efficiency but also contributes significantly to the safety and cleanliness that underpins the deli’s reputation for quality.

Additionally, the Deli Dishwasher is responsible for handling and disposing of waste correctly, organizing and stocking cleaning supplies, and operating dishwashing machines and other kitchen equipment safely and effectively. They are required to follow all established procedures diligently, report any safety hazards, and participate in all scheduled trainings and meetings. Job Requirements

  • 18+ years old
  • high school diploma or GED
  • Food Handlers Certificate (ServSafe or ANSI compliant organization)
  • ability to work closing shifts from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm
  • availability to work weekends
  • ability to communicate clearly in English
  • ability to follow health and safety standards
  • ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • willingness to adhere to non-slip, water and oil resistant closed-toe shoe requirement
  • ability to safely operate kitchen tools and equipment
  • physical capability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching
  • willingness to comply with all required trainings and meetings

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Food Handlers Certificate (ServSafe or ANSI compliant organization)
  • clear and effective communication style, both written and verbal
  • team-player who can also work independently with minimal supervision
  • ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks in a fast paced, evolving environment
  • ability to follow directions and established procedures with strong attention to detail
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • basic math skills
  • conversational English skills required when working with customers
  • bilingual proficiency preferred

Job Duties

  • Maintain clean dishes and kitchen equipment in adherence to food safety guidelines
  • scrape food from dirty dishes and wash them by hand, place them in racks or conveyor to dishwashing machine
  • wash pots, pans, and trays
  • sort and put away clean dishes in designated locations, making sure equipment is easily accessible
  • clean the dish machine after every shift and remove all excess debris
  • clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and equipment
  • organize and set up dish stations, including sinks and dishwashing machines, and keep the dish area free of clutter
  • sweep and mop kitchen floors
  • regularly deep clean department areas
  • segregate and dispose garbage, compost, excess oils and grease, and recycling in designated containers
  • transport laundry to designated pick up area
  • assist in daily food preparation as needed
  • aid in proper storage and organization of all department deliveries
  • organize, rotate, and stock workstation and department supplies
  • operate equipment such as dishwashing machine, knives, kitchen appliances
  • follow and comply with established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation and safe work practices
  • immediately report safety hazards and violations to supervisors
  • perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings
  • perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
