Job Description
Good Foods Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery committed to fostering a more equitable and sustainable food system. Established with a focus on supporting local farmers and producers, the co-op offers a welcoming and inclusive shopping experience for all members of the community. As a cooperative, Good Foods Co-op emphasizes shared ownership and democratic governance, ensuring that its operations reflect the values and needs of its members. The store is dedicated to providing high-quality natural and organic products while maintaining strong ethical and environmental standards. This mission aligns with a broader commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and the promotion of healthful living through better food choices.
The role of the Deli Buyer & Receiver at Good Foods Co-op is a full-time position that plays a crucial part in the smooth operation of the store’s Prepared Foods Department. This position requires someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about natural foods—a key contributor to maintaining efficient purchasing, receiving, and inventory management across multiple food production departments, including the Kitchen, Bakery, and Café. The individual in this role sources and purchases products necessary to support these departments, monitors inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment, and oversees the receiving of deliveries with a keen eye on product quality, accuracy, and condition.
Additionally, the Deli Buyer & Receiver manages invoicing and pricing accuracy, maintains essential vendor relationships, negotiates pricing and terms when appropriate, and organizes storage spaces to maximize efficiency and food safety. Supporting regular inventory counts and tracking purchasing budgets to sustain department profitability are also key responsibilities. The role involves collaboration with department managers and shift leads to ensure that the right products are available at the right time. It requires a proactive approach to supporting food safety, sanitation, and operational standards throughout receiving and storage areas, ensuring the ready availability of fresh, high-quality ingredients and supplies for daily production needs.
This position operates in a fast-paced environment that encompasses retail, warehouse, kitchen, and backroom settings, demanding physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and lift regularly. The need for teamwork in lifting heavy items, comfort working around equipment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently is vital. Good Foods Co-op values a hardworking, reliable individual who takes pride in their work, communicates effectively, and shares a commitment to cooperative values and community sustainability. The compensation for this position is competitive and based on experience, with full-time employees eligible for benefits after 90 days, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as a 401(k) plan with employer match after one year. Employees also enjoy store discounts and paid vacation time, contributing to a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive workplace. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to advance their career in the natural foods retail industry while making a meaningful impact in their community.
