Job Duties

  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions and make product suggestions
  • Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • Offer product samples to customers
  • Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
  • Recommend bakery items to customers
  • Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to company guidelines
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients following recipes using kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Package, label and inventory ingredients
  • Check product quality and freshness, reviewing sell-by dates
  • Keep cases full and fresh based on bakery standards
  • Participate in sales ideas and development in the cake and pastry area
  • Answer customer queries and provide assistance for cake decorating orders
  • Communicate with Bakery Manager on cake area needs
  • Track inventory related to cake or pastry including supplies and special order items
  • Ensure cake kit book is updated and stocked
  • Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to department manager
  • Understand store layout to locate products
  • Stay current with seasonal and special advertisements
  • Monitor inventory and stocking conditions
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Maintain proper case and cooler temperatures and logs
  • Comply with safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
  • Perform preventive maintenance and report equipment repair needs
  • Notify management of accidents
  • Report safety risks, illegal activities, and theft
  • Perform essential job functions with or without accommodations
