- Ability to follow recipes and baking instructions accurately
Job Duties
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions and make product suggestions
- Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
- Offer product samples to customers
- Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
- Recommend bakery items to customers
- Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to company guidelines
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients following recipes using kitchen utensils and equipment
- Package, label and inventory ingredients
- Check product quality and freshness, reviewing sell-by dates
- Keep cases full and fresh based on bakery standards
- Participate in sales ideas and development in the cake and pastry area
- Answer customer queries and provide assistance for cake decorating orders
- Communicate with Bakery Manager on cake area needs
- Track inventory related to cake or pastry including supplies and special order items
- Ensure cake kit book is updated and stocked
- Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to department manager
- Understand store layout to locate products
- Stay current with seasonal and special advertisements
- Monitor inventory and stocking conditions
- Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines
- Maintain proper case and cooler temperatures and logs
- Comply with safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
- Perform preventive maintenance and report equipment repair needs
- Notify management of accidents
- Report safety risks, illegal activities, and theft
- Perform essential job functions with or without accommodations
