Job Description

Deer Valley Resort is a premier mountain ski resort nestled in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah, located in the historic mining town of Park City. Deer Valley Resort seeks a dedicated and talented Sous Chef to join its culinary team. This full-time, year-round position offers an hourly pay rate of $28.00 and plays a critical role in maintaining the resort's reputation for outstanding dining experiences, particularly at the Deer Valley Cafe. The Sous Chef will be a key leader, motivated to inspire and manage kitchen staff while working closely with the executive chef and restaurant manager. Responsibilities include overseeing food preparation, controlling costs, influencing special menu items, and ensuring both profitability and consistency in food quality, taste, and presentation. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary trends and adept at developing fresh, innovative menu items that reflect both local produce and the diverse tastes of guests.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the culinary industry and management required
  • current Utah State food handler's permit and/or Serve Safe Certificate
  • able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs.
  • able to withstand frequent up-and-down/twisting/repetitive movements

  • must possess the knowledge and skills to create incredible tasting dishes, focusing on food trends and fresh local produce
  • be familiar with international, domestic, and special diet cuisine preparation
  • must have a current Utah State food handler's permit and/or a Serve Safe Certificate
  • able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs.
  • able to withstand frequent up-and-down/twisting/repetitive movements

Job Duties

  • Stay knowledgeable of current food trends and develop new menu items
  • operate the kitchen and direct kitchen personnel
  • maintain consistency of product with great attention to food quality, taste, and presentation
  • control food costs based on forecasting, efficient food production, planned requisitioning, and careful attention to established product specifications
  • control labor costs and carry out administrative functions pertaining to forecasting, payroll, scheduling, recruiting, training, supervising, discipline, etc.
  • organize an efficient flow of production and maintain adequate staffing
  • set up a control system through recipes, assuring quality and portion consistency
  • maintain a general quality and style consistency in food offerings between lodges
  • ensure proper maintenance and care is exhibited by all employees toward the operations, equipment, and facility
  • maintain a positive rapport with guests even at busy and hectic times
  • other duties as assigned
