The Driver, Hourly CDL-A role at Core-Mark is a critical position within the food supply chain, responsible for safely and efficiently delivering food and related products. This role is designed to uphold the high standards that Core-Mark maintains in customer service and operational performance. Drivers act as the frontline representatives of the company, establishing and maintaining positive customer relationships while ensuring timely and secure delivery of goods. This position demands a high level of professionalism, safety consciousness, and operational knowledge, as drivers are tasked with managing transportation logistics in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.

The Driver role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight delivery routes. Core-Mark provides a $10,000 sign-on bonus for drivers with at least one year of CDL-A experience and a competitive wage of $26.50 per hour. Importantly, this position generally allows drivers to be home every day, combining the benefits of rewarding work and work-life balance.

Key responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip safety checks, maintaining DOT compliance, loading/unloading freight, inspecting cargo, delivering products, managing delivery paperwork, and providing exceptional customer service. The job requires manual handling of freight cases typically ranging from 10 to 90 pounds, necessitating physical strength and stamina.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Hold a valid CDL-A license
  • Meet state licensing and certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for last three years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Successfully pass road test
  • Hold or obtain valid DOT health card
  • Be able to physically lift products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds
  • Ability to operate equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or possess a current DOT health card or be able to secure a new one
  • Ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move and stack product cases/freight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and verify customer invoices of loaded products, complete all required paperwork accurately
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route schedule, unload products and transport items to designated storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks, scan items, communicate with supervisor regarding order removals, verify deliveries with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter logs according to Federal DOT, state and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas, keep trailers clear and clean
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
