Job Description
EMCOR Government Services is a premier provider of integrated facility support services for a diverse range of clients, including military bases, national security agencies, federal buildings, healthcare facilities, and leading commercial organizations in Washington D.C. and nationwide. Renowned for its unique combination of extensive government experience and facilities expertise, EMCOR Government Services takes pride in delivering superior maintenance, cleaning, and operational support that meets the highest standards of quality and reliability. As a trusted partner for critical infrastructure and essential government operations, EMCOR plays a pivotal role in ensuring safe, clean, and well-maintained environments across its portfolio of properties.
This job opening is for a Day Porter position located at the Department of Transportation (DOT) Headquarters in Washington D.C. This role falls under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for SEIU Local 32BJ, illustrating EMCOR's commitment to fair labor practices and union representation. The Day Porter will follow a Wednesday through Sunday work schedule, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing essential housekeeping services that maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming environment for the occupants and visitors of the DOT Headquarters.
As a Day Porter, your responsibilities will encompass comprehensive interior cleaning duties such as emptying waste receptacles, removing debris and trash, vacuuming and shampooing floors and carpets, dusting and cleaning furniture, restocking restrooms, washing walls, polishing and mopping floors, handling mats and runners during inclement weather, spill cleanup, and window and window covering cleaning. In addition to interior maintenance, the position may occasionally require exterior cleaning tasks, including upkeep of exterior walls and windows, parking lots, walkways, gardens, lawns, outdoor furnishings, and other outdoor infrastructure.
The role also includes performing minor maintenance tasks like replacing batteries in touchless faucets and toilets and plunging toilets to maintain facility hygiene and functionality. Other duties could involve gardening, lawn care, assisting with inventory control and supply orders, and snow removal with salting and sanding during winter months. The Day Porter is expected to promptly identify and report safety hazards, emergencies, building repairs, and any issues that could affect the safety and comfort of facility users.
To successfully perform these duties, the Day Porter must be proficient with a range of cleaning equipment and chemicals and must adhere strictly to safety protocols to prevent injury and property damage. This role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand or walk for extended periods, handle physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, and work in variable environmental conditions that can lead to exposure to dust and dirt.
EMCOR Government Services values reliability, thoroughness, organization, and teamwork, seeking candidates who demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of commercial-industrial housekeeping procedures, a strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and the flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings or weekends as necessary. The compensation for this role is set at $21.40 per hour, with health and welfare benefits provided consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. EMCOR is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, veterans, and disabled individuals, emphasizing an inclusive and respectful workplace.
If you are dedicated to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in a federal government facility setting and meet the qualifications and requirements for this role, EMCOR Government Services offers a rewarding career path with competitive pay, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to important government infrastructure services.
