Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a global leader in cloud computing, providing a comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform to millions of customers worldwide. As a division of Amazon, AWS designs, plans, delivers, and operates the massive infrastructure powering the cloud services that enable businesses of all sizes and industries to innovate, scale, and succeed. AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for managing the entire AWS global infrastructure, including data centers, servers, storage devices, networking equipment, power, and cooling systems that ensure uninterrupted service availability and high performance. The team plays a critical role in supporting the technology backbone of millions of businesses globally, helping them maintain access to cloud innovation with seamless reliability and security.
Joining the AWS data center team as a Data Center Technician positions you at the forefront of this exciting and fast-paced environment. You will become a vital guardian of global cloud infrastructure, entrusted with maintaining the heartbeat of one of the world's most innovative technology platforms. Your work ensures the stability and efficiency of data center operations that power millions of services worldwide. This role requires a strong balance of independent initiative and teamwork where work prioritization, effective communication, and quick problem-solving skills are essential to success.
As a Data Center Technician, your core responsibilities will include hardware installation, repair, and maintenance, network troubleshooting, and operational incident response. You will work hands-on with server components, racks, and systems within a 24/7 operational environment, handling everything from server rack installations to fixing hardware break-fixes and escalating critical incidents. Traveling within and beyond your regional work area will be necessary to support various data center sites, including facilities still under development or undergoing maintenance.
You will serve as a primary contact for internal and external stakeholders such as engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors, ensuring smooth communication and timely resolution of technical issues. Participating in scheduled maintenance, on-call duties, and change management activities will be part of your daily responsibilities. Moreover, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by updating documentation, refining processes, and assisting in training and onboarding new team members.
This role comes with physical demands like lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, working in cramped or elevated locations, and performing shifts that may be longer than 8 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24/7 data center operations. Your ability to work safely with ladders, stairs, gangways, and endure noisy environments is important to fulfilling this role effectively.
Offering not only a challenging and rewarding career path, this position also supports your career growth by exposing you to a diverse and inclusive culture where bold ideas are welcomed, ownership is encouraged, and collaboration spans multiple disciplines from hardware to software and supply chain operations. Amazon emphasizes equal opportunity employment, providing accommodations as needed and a supportive workplace.
The starting pay ranges from $27.00 to $48.00 USD hourly depending on experience and location, with additional benefits including mental health support, medical advice lines, and 401(k) matching. Eligible candidates relocating for the position may receive a lump-sum stipend. Personal transportation and a valid driver's license are necessary as company transport is not provided for regional travel.
This role offers you the unique opportunity to be part of an industry-leading team that keeps the cloud running smoothly, solving complex operational challenges and contributing directly to the advancement of global technology infrastructure.
