Job Description

The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Cook position plays a vital role within a Child Development Center (CDC) environment, contributing significantly to the nutrition and well-being of children enrolled in the program. The CYP operates as part of a larger Child and Youth Services organization committed to providing high-quality care and educational opportunities for children and youth. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • must provide a copy of diploma ged or college transcripts upon application
  • if degree not awarded must also provide high school diploma or equivalent
  • ability to communicate effectively in English
  • experience or knowledge related to food preparation and safety
  • ability to follow sanitation and food safety standards
  • ability to handle multiple cooking processes simultaneously
  • strong interpersonal communication skills

  • knowledge and understanding of food handling techniques personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures
  • thorough knowledge of food preparation principles including recipe development and cooking large quantities

Job Duties

  • perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the child and youth program
  • assist with food preparation for the school age care program
  • apply food handling techniques and personal hygiene standards
  • prepare and cook food in large quantities following recipes and safety procedures
  • maintain sanitation standards to prevent contamination
  • evaluate food products and initiate corrective action when needed
  • develop and modify standardized recipes for quantity cooking
