Job Description

Job Requirements

  • Meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable
  • Possess specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements for current federal employees
  • Undergo thorough background investigation including criminal history and drug use
  • Meet residency requirement of having lived in the U.S. or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years or qualify for exception
  • Disclose any past political appointments if applicable
  • Complete a one year probationary period if new to federal government

Job Qualifications

  • Experience reviewing and processing drawback claims
  • Knowledge of customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements
  • Ability to interpret customs requirements and classify merchandise
  • Experience conducting compliance reviews and evaluating drawback systems
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Effective communication skills for public outreach
  • Graduate level education in a relevant field preferred for GS-11 level

Job Duties

  • Reviewing and processing drawback claims and supporting documentation
  • Applying customs laws, regulations, and procedures
  • Interpreting customs requirements and determining rates of duty
  • Classifying merchandise, entry requirements, manufacturing records, export documentation, and accounting and inventory records
  • Reviewing and making decisions independently on complex drawback claims
  • Participating in public outreach programs including presenting seminars and providing guidance to claimants
  • Performing compliance reviews of records to verify eligibility and adequacy of drawback systems
