Job Description

U-Haul is a renowned company that has been a trusted name in the moving and storage industry since 1945. Founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul was born out of a recognized need for affordable, do-it-yourself moving equipment that could be rented on a nationwide, one-way basis. Originating from the concept of shared ownership, U-Haul revolutionized the moving industry by making it easier and more accessible for households to relocate across the United States and Canada. The iconic orange U-Haul trailers have become a symbol of mobility, independence, and reliability for millions of customers.

The U-Haul Holding Company and its family of companies prioritize creating a supportive workplace culture that fosters health, wellness, and career growth. As part of their commitment to employee well-being, the company enforces a nicotine-free hiring policy in many states to promote a healthier workforce. U-Haul offers competitive pay ranging from $14.00 to $16.00 per hour and values diversity, equity, and inclusion. They are an equal opportunity employer, ensuring all applicants are considered fairly regardless of race, religion, gender, or veteran status, among other factors. U-Haul also provides accommodations for applicants during the selection process.

The Customer Service Representative - Lot Attendant role at U-Haul is pivotal in delivering the company’s exceptional customer experience. This in-person, hourly position emphasizes direct customer engagement, teamwork, and the efficient management of equipment. Representatives act as the face of U-Haul, providing courteous and knowledgeable assistance to customers inside and outside the center, helping them understand products and services essential for their moving journey. The role involves using advanced smartphone-based U-Scan technology to manage rentals and inventory accurately, reflecting U-Haul’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining U-Haul equipment on the lot, including performing fluid level checks and basic cleaning, hooking up and moving trucks and trailers, and preparing rental invoices. Employees receive comprehensive training, with certification opportunities in propane filling and forklift operation offered upon employment to enhance skills and safety. The job demands physical activity, including moving equipment that weighs at least 50 pounds, and working in environments where protective gear like gloves or goggles may be necessary due to exposure to fumes or machinery.

U-Haul’s hiring process is designed to be transparent and rewarding. Candidates can participate in two paid, hands-on working interviews, allowing them to gain firsthand experience and get paid immediately. Additionally, a $100 hiring bonus is available, along with a $300 cash bonus payable after completing the U-Haul Equipment Inspection and Verification certification through their U-Haul University program. This comprehensive onboarding ensures employees are well-prepared, confident, and supported in their roles.

U-Haul offers an extensive range of benefits aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its employees, including career stability, opportunities for advancement within the company, reimbursement programs for wellness activities such as gym memberships and mindset apps, and competitive health, dental, and vision insurance plans for eligible employees. Additional perks include life insurance, legal assistance programs, discounts on technology and travel services, a 401(k) savings plan, employee stock ownership opportunities, and access to various protective and support programs such as identity theft protection and critical illness insurance.

By joining U-Haul as a Customer Service Representative, employees become part of a team that values integrity, customer service excellence, and professional growth. The role is ideal for motivated individuals who enjoy interacting with people, working in a dynamic environment, and contributing to a well-established brand known for helping millions of customers move their belongings safely and efficiently.
