We are currently seeking a dedicated Custodian/Janitorial Worker to join our team at UMOS. This full-time, temporary position offers an hourly pay range of $16.00 to $18.00 and requires in-person work at our facilities. In this role, you will play an essential part in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of UMOS buildings. The Custodian/Janitorial Worker ensures that the environment remains clean, orderly, and welcoming for employees, clients, and visitors alike. By performing a variety of cleaning tasks and facility maintenance duties, you contribute significantly to creating a safe and comfortable workplace.
The ideal candidate will exhibit strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include routine cleaning such as emptying wastebaskets, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, as well as more specialized tasks like window washing and lawn care. This role also involves assisting with moving products within the warehouse and setting up rooms for meetings or events. Candidates should be comfortable using cleaning equipment and power tools and able to perform light physical labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
Additional duties may involve snow removal, trimming shrubbery, and notifying management about necessary repairs. The position also requires operating UMOS vehicles for transporting furniture and equipment. The custodian will contribute to maintaining an efficient and pleasant environment while also training and supervising work experience participants. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of custodial experience
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, pallet jack, forklift, other tools, and power tools applicable
- Ability to perform light physical labor with occasional lifting of at least 40 lb
- Excellent communication skills to receive and follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety procedures
- Ability to read and follow instructions on supplies containers, equipment manuals, and product literature
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license and insurability per Department of Transportation regulations
- Availability to work irregular hours
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
Job Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of custodial experience
- Knowledge of cleaning materials and compounds
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, pallet jack, forklift, other tools, and power tools applicable
- Ability to perform light physical labor with occasional lifting of at least 40 lb
- Demonstrate the ability to receive and accept written and verbal instruction and direction
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
- Ability to read and safely and accurately follow written instructions on supplies containers, equipment manuals, and product literature
- Ability to correctly interpret and use devices and tools for measurement, such as tape measures, volume measurement containers, and time clocks
- Ability to perform simple computations correctly, such as addition, subtraction, and division in activities like calculating spatial area
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to relate to other employees and UMOS clients in providing a clean, safe, and comfortable working environment
- Able to work irregular hours
- Have a valid driver’s license and be insurable in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
Job Duties
- Empty wastebaskets and garbage containers
- Dust furniture and equipment weekly
- Sweep and vacuum floors daily
- Clean bathrooms daily
- Mop, wax, and buff floors weekly
- Wash sills and floorboards weekly
- Wash windows weekly
- Assist with moving products throughout warehouse and within building and facility grounds
- Set up tables and chairs in halls and meeting rooms as needed
- Notify management regarding need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment
- Cut and trim grass and shrubbery around buildings using hand tools and power equipment
- Remove snow and debris from sidewalks and parking areas around buildings
- Utilize UMOS vehicles to transport furniture, equipment, and other materials
- Train and supervise work experience participants
- Perform special projects and other related duties as needed, attend meetings, conferences, and workshops as assigned
