Job Description

The hiring establishment for the position of Custodian 4 is part of a reputable school district, focusing on maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary environments for the benefit of students and staff. This custodian position is based at Allen Elementary School, located at 1881 S. Elpyco Wichita, 67218. The district prides itself on fostering a professional and collaborative environment where custodial staff play an essential role in the smooth operation of school facilities. The Custodian 4 role is full-time with a 260-day work calendar and encompasses a 35-hour workweek, requiring dedication and consistency throughout the school year. This opportunity offers a salary range between $18.24 and $20.19 per hour, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package, showcasing the district's commitment to employee welfare and job satisfaction.

As a Custodian 4, the primary function is to assist the custodial team in providing a clean, safe, and sanitary environment, performing a wide variety of custodial tasks across the building or campus. Beyond routine cleaning, the custodian may also have responsibilities in supervising and training part-time and temporary custodial staff, which demonstrates a leadership component within the role. The position requires flexibility to perform daily tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, restroom service, cleaning gymnasiums, locker rooms, and auditoriums, as well as responding to specific staff requests including setup of audiovisual equipment and cleaning after lunch periods. Weekly duties extend to more intensive cleaning activities such as buffing, carpet spotting, floor waxing, and washing walls and furniture.

The work environment combines both indoor and outdoor responsibilities, requiring comfort with a range of weather conditions and exposure to cleaning chemicals. Physical capacity is crucial, as the job involves exerting significant force for lifting and maneuvering equipment, climbing stairs and ladders, and performing repetitive motions such as bending and stooping. Interaction with supervisors, school staff, and external vendors is frequent, necessitating strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to maintain a positive and discreet demeanor.

The Custodian 4 position also requires knowledge and adherence to energy management practices like controlling lighting and water usage, ensuring the facility operates sustainably. In addition, the role demands the ability to use a variety of hand and power equipment safely and competently. Compliance with district guidelines including the usage of SMART boards and other technology is imperative. Candidates are expected to meet a Physical Capacity Profile and demonstrate a solid understanding of safety standards, company mission and goals, and knowledge related to asbestos and mechanical operations.

Overall, this position is fitting for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to contributing positively to the school community. The ideal candidate portrays professional dress and conduct and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team to meet the routine and unpredictable demands of maintaining an educational facility.
