Job Description
Webster Groves School District is a reputable educational institution committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students, staff, and the wider community. Operating within the district's central offices and service center, the school district values the contributions of its support staff in maintaining operational excellence and facility upkeep. The district prides itself on fostering an inclusive work environment and is recognized as an equal opportunity employer, also participating in the E-VERIFY program to ensure compliance with employment eligibility regulations.
The Custodian role under the supervision of the Lead Custodian is a vital position focused on maintaining cleanliness, safety, and minor maintenance throughout the school district's central office and service center facilities. This full-time, non-exempt position operates on a 12-month work calendar with scheduled shifts from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, providing essential custodial services for the community and staff. The custodian helps to ensure the facilities meet high standards of safety and sanitation, contributing to a healthy working atmosphere.
In this role, the custodian is responsible for a diverse set of duties including cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, dusting and wiping furniture, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors as well as emptying and cleaning wastebaskets and trash containers. The custodian also manages the upkeep of lighting by replacing bulbs and refilling restroom dispensers, which supports efficient facility operations. A significant aspect of the position involves assisting with the setup of rooms and spaces for various meetings, classrooms, conferences, and special events, highlighting the role’s collaborative and supportive nature.
The custodian utilizes a wide array of power equipment and hand tools including buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers, and various cleaning tools like vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees. These tools are instrumental in performing tasks such as stripping, cleaning, buffing floors, applying sealers and finishes to hard surface floors, as well as shampooing carpets. There is also an emphasis on safety and maintenance involving tasks like washing walls and equipment, using ladders safely for elevated work, and locking and unlocking buildings to secure premises when not in use.
Candidates for this position should be experienced in cleaning processes, materials, equipment, and effectively managing priorities and tasks. While a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, the position places a strong emphasis on practical experience in custodial or facility maintenance roles. The role promises eligible benefits to its employees, reinforcing the school district’s commitment to staff welfare. Overall, this custodial position is essential in supporting the district’s mission of ensuring that all facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained for the benefit of students, faculty, and visitors alike.
