Job Description
All North Lamar campuses are committed to fostering a safe, clean, and welcoming environment conducive to learning and development. Serving a diverse student body, the school district prioritizes maintaining its facilities to the highest standards. It emphasizes the importance of custodial services in supporting the overall educational mission by ensuring that school buildings and grounds are hygienic, safe, and well-maintained. The district employs custodial staff responsible for general cleaning and maintenance, collaborating closely with principals and the maintenance director to uphold these standards across all campuses.
The role of a Custodian at All North Lamar campuses is a crucial full-time position focused on preserving the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of school facilities. Under the direct supervision of the Principal and Maintenance Director, the Custodian performs comprehensive cleaning and maintenance duties covering a broad range of operational needs. This includes cleaning classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, offices, stairways, and other designated areas as per established district standards. The custodian also handles floor care operations such as sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, and waxing, along with cleaning carpets, rugs, and furniture.
Beyond routine cleaning, the custodian takes responsibility for washing walls, windows, ceilings, woodwork, and removing graffiti to maintain aesthetic appeal while replacing light bulbs and setting up or breaking down furniture for meetings or events. The role also includes grounds-keeping duties like snow removal, spreading ice melting chemicals, and maintaining the school’s outdoor areas. Assisting with unloading supplies, delivering materials to various locations within the campuses, and managing waste by emptying trash and recycling is part of the daily workflow.
In addition to these essential functions, custodians support special events by assisting visitors and parents, performing minor repair work during school vacations, and contributing to related maintenance activities as assigned. The role requires familiarity with hand tools, power equipment including floor machines and snow blowers, and adherence to safety protocols including appropriate protective gear and compliance with chemical hygiene guidelines.
Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, follow instructions accurately, and work collaboratively with school staff and students. The position demands physical stamina to work in various weather conditions and handle physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and operating equipment safely. Travel between campuses and the central office may occasionally be necessary. This non-exempt position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the school community’s daily functioning and plays a vital role in creating a positive educational environment for students and staff alike.
