Job Description
The hiring establishment is a charter school that is committed to providing an excellent educational environment by maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient building and grounds. This charter school operates under an at-will employment arrangement and follows a full-time schedule from Monday through Friday. The custodian position is a vital role within the school as it directly influences the physical environment where students, staff, and visitors spend their time. The school places high value on safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency, all of which are critical to creating a conducive atmosphere for learning and community engagement.
The custodian is responsible for following routine cleaning schedules that encompass numerous areas of the school building and its surrounding grounds. Key areas of responsibility include cleaning floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms. Additionally, custodians ensure outdoor areas like sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and playgrounds are clean and well-maintained. This role requires operational knowledge of various cleaning equipment like buffers, strippers, vacuums, shampooers, and burnishing machines. The custodian must follow all established safety procedures during the use of equipment and while performing physical tasks such as lifting and climbing. The position requires frequent physical activity, including walking, standing, climbing, and lifting heavy equipment.
In addition to cleaning duties, custodians assist with building operations by opening and closing facilities each school day and adhering to strict procedures for locking and safeguarding the premises. They are tasked with daily inspections ensuring that all exit doors function properly and are safe during hours of occupancy. Custodians also actively correct unsafe conditions or report them to supervisors, thereby contributing to the overall safety of the school environment.
The custodian position is integral to supporting the school’s mission, which is to foster a supportive and productive educational atmosphere. This role includes community responsibilities such as conveying the charter’s mission to the public, encouraging support, raising community and parent involvement, and participating in student recruitment efforts. Moreover, the custodian helps promote a constructive and fair climate that respects all cultural backgrounds and sustains the school culture effectively through positive communication with students and staff.
The position offers a salary of $30,312.92 and includes a 242 workday schedule. Reporting lines include the campus principal and region custodial supervisor, which ensures that custodians receive necessary guidance and alignment with school operational standards. Overall, the role demands a responsible individual with the ability to operate under fast-paced, physically demanding, and sometimes fluctuating environmental conditions. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with the ability to read, write, and speak English to effectively follow instructions and engage with the school community.
