The district emphasizes community involvement and engagement, offering a supportive and collaborative workplace for its employees.
The Maintenance and Operations Department at Longoria Middle School, part of Edinburg CISD, is seeking a dedicated Custodian to join the team. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position reporting directly to the School Principal. The position is for 261 workdays per year, offering an hourly wage ranging from $15.25 minimum to $19.32 maximum, reflecting a commitment to competitive and fair compensation. The Custodian role is essential in upholding the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of the school building and grounds, working both indoors and outdoors in a dynamic environment.

This role requires the individual to have physical stamina, as it involves standing, walking, lifting, climbing ladders, and working with various tools and cleaning equipment. The position entails medium physical demands, such as lifting objects up to 60 pounds, pushing and pulling cleaning machines, and balancing on slippery or wet surfaces, requiring careful attention to safety protocols.
In addition to cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing hallways, restrooms, classrooms, and other areas, the Custodian will also be responsible for exterior maintenance. This includes lawn mowing, shrubbery trimming, and flower cultivation using hand and power tools. The Custodian ensures the building is secure by locking doors and windows at the end of each day and monitoring access after school hours. They are also tasked with mixing cleaning solutions, removing old wax from floors, applying new wax or protective coatings, and reporting major maintenance issues to the school principal.
This role demands a proactive individual who can work independently with limited supervision, handle repetitive tasks consistently, and follow both written and verbal instructions effectively. Applicants should have the ability to distinguish between colors for safety coding, perform a variety of tasks without loss of efficiency, and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and supervisors. Experience as a janitor or relevant custodial role is preferred but not mandatory, as on-the-job training is provided.
The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and safe school environment, contributing to the overall mission of Edinburg CISD to support student success. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team focused on school excellence and community well-being. Individuals who are reliable, detail-oriented, and take pride in their work will find this role rewarding and impactful.
