Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must obtain California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass functional capacity test
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Must report to work on time and in uniform
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Union membership required upon hire

Job Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED
  • Must take and pass California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • Valid driver’s license essential to drive College-owned vehicles
  • Experience with food services and hospitality assignments at an academic institution preferred
  • Must pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire
  • Ability to operate and maintain variety of kitchen and dishwashing equipment
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills
  • Ability to safely use various cleaning supplies to ensure sanitation
  • Ability to deliver superior customer service with friendly and helpful demeanor

Job Duties

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dining halls, restrooms, patio areas, and serving areas
  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, vacuum hallways and office spaces
  • Shampoo and clean carpets with floor machine as assigned
  • Place wet floor signs as needed
  • Restock restroom supplies
  • Collect and empty trash and garbage containers, clean back dock, trash bins, and trash cans
  • Wipe tables and clean furniture
  • Assist with the set-up of dining rooms and banquet rooms
  • Assist in dish room and kitchen as needed including receiving, sorting, and washing soiled trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans
  • Restock trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans before, during, and after meal periods
  • Notify supervisor of need for equipment
  • Make minor maintenance repairs
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Follow and comply with all HACCP guidelines and College policies
  • Assist with training staff as assigned
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Perform special projects and tasks as assigned
