Job Description
Foodlink is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger and building healthier communities through the power of food. Operating in the Greater Rochester area, Foodlink envisions a future where food is recognized as a fundamental human right and strives to create a region where every individual has access to nutritious food to feed themselves and their families with dignity. Rooted in firm values such as compassion, responsibility, teamwork, and adaptability, Foodlink actively engages in removing barriers associated with hunger and poverty, emphasizing equity and inclusion in all facets of its work. As one of the largest food banks and anti-hunger organizations in the region, Foodlink serves thousands annually and is committed to fostering a culture where diversity is respected and all employees and community members feel a sense of belonging and connection to the organization’s mission.
The Curbside Market Operator role at Foodlink offers a unique opportunity to impact community health positively by managing and operating one of the country’s largest mobile markets that delivers fresh, affordable, and healthy foods directly to low-income communities. This full-time, year-round, hourly, non-exempt position involves operating a Curbside Market vehicle according to a daily route and schedule, ensuring efficient loading, unloading, and timely arrival at market sites. The operator plays a vital role in providing exemplary customer service, handling money with accuracy through point-of-sale systems, supervising volunteers and interns, and maintaining safety and cleanliness of the market vehicle. Candidates will work in all weather conditions and must be comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires adaptability and excellent problem-solving skills.
Working at Foodlink means becoming part of an organization that values self-direction, teamwork, and a commitment to quality and safety. The Curbside Market Operator is not only a driver and logistics coordinator but also an ambassador of Foodlink’s mission, upholding professionalism and inclusivity while interacting with customers, volunteers, donors, and community partners. The role emphasizes continuous communication with supervisory staff and requires vigilance in following safety protocols including Department of Transportation regulations and performing pre-trip inspections.
The position requires physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds, exposure to varied temperatures and outdoor settings, and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Foodlink offers competitive compensation at $18.50 per hour with comprehensive health and dental insurance fully covered for individuals and options for family plans with pre-tax contributions. Generous paid time off, 14 paid holidays, and a 401k retirement savings plan with employer match after one year reflect Foodlink’s commitment to its employees’ well-being and financial security.
Joining Foodlink means contributing to a larger movement against hunger and poverty, supporting equitable food access, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where every employee’s unique background is valued. Foodlink is actively seeking candidates from diverse communities and encourages applications from candidates of color, further reinforcing its dedication to equity and community representation. This role is an excellent fit for individuals passionate about social impact, community health, and who thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
