Job Description
Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, specializing in providing integrated food services, facilities management, and other support solutions in diverse environments, including corporate campuses, hospitals, universities, and convention centers. Operating in more than 80 countries, Sodexo commits itself to improving everyday experiences for people and fostering sustainable community progress through tailored service solutions. It partners with organizations of all sizes to create memorable experiences for customers and employees alike by leveraging highly skilled teams and a customer-centric focus.
The San Diego Convention Center, a prominent venue known for hosting large-scale events and conventions, is currently seeking a dedicated Culinary Supervisor to join the Sodexo team. This full-time position offers competitive compensation, with hourly wages ranging from $26.50 to $30. The role is designed for candidates with open availability and flexibility as shifts may vary. Working at the San Diego Convention Center under Sodexo offers an opportunity to be part of a respected company that values purpose, teamwork, and career growth.
As a Culinary Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing daily food production and kitchen operations. This hands-on leadership position requires supervising Senior Cooks while supporting the Sous Chefs and Executive Chefs in meeting production plans and service schedules efficiently. You will ensure that all kitchen activities align with Sodexo’s culinary standards, food safety regulations, and sanitation protocols. A key responsibility is to coordinate culinary staff, monitor production timelines, control portion sizes via standardized recipes, and maintain a safe and productive kitchen environment.
Additionally, the role requires active participation in food preparation tasks alongside directing team workflow and enforcing operational standards. Culinary Supervisors will also support onboarding and training processes for new culinary team members, ensuring that staff are well-equipped to deliver exceptional food service. The position demands adaptability, as duties may change depending on the kitchen layout, service model, and event volume at the Convention Center.
Candidates for this role should bring a minimum of 2 to 4 years of culinary experience, preferably in high-volume, multi-outlet, or event-driven environments. Prior leadership experience as a lead cook or kitchen supervisor is advantageous. Familiarity with batch cooking methods and just-in-time food production is beneficial. Required certifications include a food handler’s permit and ServSafe Manager or its equivalent where applicable. Physical ability to perform kitchen tasks involving lifting, reaching, and standing for extended periods is necessary.
Sodexo promotes a flexible and supportive workplace culture that prioritizes work-life balance and ongoing career development. Team members gain access to continuous training opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package supporting health, wellness, and financial security. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision coverage, paid time off, holidays, tuition reimbursement, 401k retirement plans, employee discounts, and in some locations, additional perks like free shift meals, uniforms, transportation support, and safety equipment.
At Sodexo, inclusivity, respect, and equal opportunity are core pillars. Every employee’s voice is valued, and the company strives to foster a sense of belonging where diverse perspectives strengthen team performance. Sodexo is committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected status. Joining Sodexo means being part of a global community dedicated to enhancing quality of life and delivering outstanding culinary experiences at the San Diego Convention Center.
