As a Kitchen Leader at The Range Cafe, you hold a pivotal role in shaping our guests' dining experience and operational success. This position requires a hands-on leader capable of managing all kitchen functions including food purchasing, preparation, quality control, sanitation, and training employees to uphold our exceptional culinary standards. Your role extends beyond cooking; you will lead, mentor, and develop a cohesive culinary team by instilling a sense of urgency, multitasking ability, and adherence to company policies and procedures. You will be responsible for implementing and enforcing cleanliness and safety standards, managing labor and food costs effectively, and ensuring consistency in food quality and presentation. The Kitchen Leader must maintain open communication with the management team, oversee inventory and scheduling, and ensure compliance with health and sanitation inspections. This is a full-time, exempt salary position with an expected minimum of 50 hours per week and an annual salary range of $50,000 to $52,000. The position requires flexibility, including availability on weekends, holidays, day and night shifts, and the ability to work on-site. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum of 5 years experience in kitchen roles including food preparation, line cook, fry cook, and expediter
  • at least 6 months experience in similar leadership capacity
  • ability to communicate clearly in guest and team languages
  • basic computer proficiency related to inventory and purchasing
  • physical ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for up to 9 hours
  • ability to work under pressure and in high temperature environments
  • availability for weekend, holiday, day, and night shifts
  • willingness to work full-time on-site

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum of 5 years experience in varied kitchen positions
  • at least 6 months experience in a leadership capacity
  • formal culinary education preferred but not required
  • working knowledge of predominant guest languages
  • basic computer skills including inventory management and food purchasing
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • strong multitasking and urgency skills
  • excellent communication abilities

Job Duties

  • Directly responsible for all kitchen functions including food purchasing, preparation, and maintenance of quality standards
  • implement and enforce sanitation and cleanliness practices
  • ensure all food and products are consistently prepared according to recipes and portion standards
  • make employment decisions including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and disciplining culinary personnel
  • provide orientation and ongoing training in company policies and cooking methods
  • monitor food production and adjust quantities as needed
  • oversee food quality on the expediting line during peak times
  • prepare paperwork including reports and schedules
  • maintain kitchen equipment and follow preventative maintenance programs
  • ensure correct product orders and delivery compliance
  • control food cost and waste through proper purchasing and storage
  • schedule labor to meet business needs and cost objectives
  • administer consistent corrective action for policy violations
  • train kitchen staff on safe operation and sanitation
  • maintain cleaning schedules and prepare for sanitation inspections
  • monitor food holding temperatures and maintain records
  • perform shift line checks for consistency and sanitation
  • taste food regularly and encourage staff tasting
  • provide team assistance and support
  • complete monthly inventories accurately
  • enforce recipe policy and update recipes
  • communicate openly with management
  • respond promptly to communications and attend meetings
