Job Description

Sweetgreen is a pioneering national restaurant brand dedicated to building healthier communities by connecting people to real, fresh food. Established in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized the fast-food industry by prioritizing quality, sustainability, and relationships with farmers and local communities. As a company committed to promoting healthier lifestyles, Sweetgreen emphasizes using fresh, flavorful ingredients crafted into mindful dishes that reflect their mission to nourish both the body and the environment.

Sweetgreen operates as a fast casual restaurant chain specializing in innovative and health-conscious menu options. This dynamic and rapidly growing organization is rooted in values of community, sustainability, and inclusivity, aiming to create spaces where food, people, and purpose converge. Sweetgreen supports career growth and development opportunities for its employees across restaurants and headquarters alike, fostering an environment where team members can thrive and contribute to the company's evolving mission.

The Culinary Lead role, referred to as Kitchen Lead at Sweetgreen, is a key position within the kitchen that focuses exclusively on food quality rather than people management. The Culinary Lead owns the standards related to how food is prepped, cooked, and presented every single shift, ensuring consistency and excellence in every dish served. This role does not involve typical managerial tasks such as scheduling or performance reviews but centers on leading by example through craftsmanship, coaching teammates on food execution, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

This position requires hands-on involvement with food preparation including hot food cooking using safe kitchen tools such as knives and ovens without the use of traditional restaurant grills or fryers. Culinary Leads are the expert advocates for food quality during operations, managing prep timing, and volume to ensure smooth kitchen workflow. Collaboration with Shift Leaders and Managers is vital to uphold overall kitchen operations, food safety, and cleanliness standards.

Sweetgreen offers competitive wages and benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance options even for part-time team members, paid vacation, wellness time, parental leave, and access to a 401(k) plan. Team members also enjoy perks such as free meals every shift, access to a merchandise store, and tip opportunities based on location and role. The Culinary Lead position provides a strong career advancement path with opportunities to grow into Shift Leader and General Manager roles within 2-3 years.

This role is an ideal fit for individuals passionate about maintaining food quality and consistency, those who thrive in fast-paced, high-volume kitchens such as fast casual or quick service environments, and who prefer leadership responsibilities focused on product quality rather than people management. For those who appreciate clean, high-quality food execution and enjoy training peers, the Culinary Lead position at Sweetgreen presents an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the company’s mission and their own professional growth.
