Job Description
Sweetgreen is a nationally recognized restaurant brand committed to building healthier communities by connecting individuals to real, wholesome food. Since its inception in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized the fast food industry by focusing on fresh, flavorful meals and fostering strong relationships with farmers and local communities. The company operates under a mission to create spaces where food, people, and purpose come together, providing not just meals but experiences that promote wellness and sustainability. At Sweetgreen, the growth and development of its team members are a priority. The company offers opportunities to advance within the restaurant and support center environments, creating a dynamic and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and equal opportunity for all employees regardless of gender, race, age, or other protected characteristics. Sweetgreen also adheres to legal standards such as E-Verify to ensure all team members' eligibility to work in the United States, reinforcing a commitment to lawful and ethical employment practices. Joining Sweetgreen means becoming part of a movement aimed at redefining fast food and fostering a healthier future for communities across the nation.
The Culinary Lead, also known as the Kitchen Lead at Sweetgreen, plays an essential role as the food quality expert within the kitchen environment. This position directly influences how food is prepared, cooked, and presented during each shift. Unlike traditional managerial roles, the Culinary Lead does not engage in personnel management responsibilities such as scheduling or conducting performance reviews. Instead, the role focuses on leading by example through craftsmanship, coaching, and consistent execution of kitchen processes. This role demands a strong dedication to food quality standards relating to flavor, safety, and presentation, and requires hands-on involvement in prepping and cooking hot food using knives, kitchen tools, and ovens without the complexity of grills or fryers. The Culinary Lead serves as the go-to person for food quality and kitchen excellence, working closely with Shift Leaders and Managers to maintain operational standards centered on food safety and cleanliness. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about kitchen work who seek leadership opportunities centered on food craftsmanship rather than people management. The role also offers a clear career development pathway with top performers often advancing to General Manager roles within two to three years. Sweetgreen provides a supportive work environment that values attention to detail, teamwork, and continuous learning, making it an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals looking to grow their career in a fast-paced, purpose-driven company.
