Job Description
Sweetgreen is a rapidly growing national restaurant brand committed to revolutionizing the fast food industry by connecting people to real, fresh, and flavorful food. Founded in 2007, Sweetgreen has dedicated itself to building healthier communities through close relationships with farmers and a focus on sustainability and quality. The brand is recognized for reimagining fast casual dining by emphasizing food preparation that is both delicious and nutritious, avoiding traditional cooking methods involving grills and fryers. Sweetgreen fosters an inclusive, forward-thinking work environment where all employees are valued and diversity is embraced. The company places great emphasis on employee development, offering clear career growth paths and inclusive workplace policies that comply with all federal, state, and local laws. Sweetgreen also participates in the federal E-Verify program to ensure employment eligibility, and it commits to providing reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees as required by applicable laws.
The Culinary Lead position, also referred to internally as Kitchen Lead, is a pivotal role at Sweetgreen focused on food quality and kitchen execution. This position is distinct from traditional people management roles, as it does not involve scheduling or performance review responsibilities. Instead, the Culinary Lead acts as the food quality expert in the kitchen, owning the process of how food is prepped, cooked, and presented during every shift. The Culinary Lead leads by example through consistent craft and effective coaching, ensuring every item served meets Sweetgreen's rigorous standards for flavor, food safety, and visual appeal. Unlike conventional restaurant kitchens, Sweetgreen kitchens operate without grills or fryers, relying on ovens and precise kitchen tools, which reflects the company's commitment to healthier food options.
This role demands a high level of attention to detail and the ability to maintain operational excellence by managing prep timing, par levels, and food safety measures. The Culinary Lead works closely with Shift Leaders and Managers to uphold cleanliness and food quality standards. The position is ideal for those passionate about culinary craft and leadership without the full spectrum of people management duties. It offers a unique career opportunity for motivated individuals eager to advance within the company, with a proven track record of top performers moving into General Manager roles within 2 to 3 years. Sweetgreen offers competitive wages, tips in certain locations, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, even for part-time team members, paid vacation, wellness time, parental leave, a free meal each shift, and access to a 401(k) plan. Additionally, team members can participate in a merchandise program to earn and purchase exclusive Sweetgreen gear.
If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen environment, values quality and consistency, enjoys mentoring peers, and wants to grow your leadership skills within a company that champions healthier food choices and inclusivity, this Culinary Lead role at Sweetgreen is a fantastic fit.
