Job Description

Sweetgreen is a renowned national restaurant brand that has been at the forefront of the fast-casual dining movement since its founding in 2007. Focused on creating healthier communities, Sweetgreen offers fresh, flavorful food that connects people to real, nourishing ingredients sourced with care from farms and local suppliers. The company has redefined fast food by prioritizing transparency, sustainability, and quality, building a loyal customer base that values not just what they eat but how it is made. As Sweetgreen continues to expand across the United States, it remains dedicated to developing its team members and fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes diversity in all its forms, including gender, race, age, and cultural background. Employees are empowered to contribute to a vibrant food culture where every meal is an opportunity to make a positive impact.

The Culinary Lead role, commonly known within Sweetgreen as the Kitchen Lead, is a pivotal position responsible for maintaining the highest standards of food quality in the kitchen. This role is not about people management but about becoming the food quality expert each shift relies upon. Culinary Leads own how food is prepped, cooked, and presented, leading by example through skill, coaching, and consistency. Unlike traditional restaurants that use grills and fryers, Sweetgreen kitchens utilize smart systems and ovens to prepare healthy, flame-free meals efficiently. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how food is served and ensures every dish meets Sweetgreen’s standards for flavor, safety, and presentation. It is an ideal position for those passionate about culinary craft who want to take on leadership responsibilities without the administrative aspects of scheduling or performance reviews.

Culinary Leads will play a vital part in the fast-paced environment of Sweetgreen, managing prep timing and kitchen execution to keep operations running smoothly. They provide real-time coaching to teammates to improve food quality and execution, acting swiftly to identify and correct any issues that might arise during service. Partnering closely with Shift Leaders and Managers, Culinary Leads uphold food safety, cleanliness, and overall operational excellence every day. The role stands out as a significant step in career progression, offering a clear path to becoming a General Manager within two to three years for top performers. Sweetgreen provides a supportive culture where culinary passion and leadership potential are nurtured alongside competitive wages, benefits, and opportunities for growth, making this an exciting career choice for food enthusiasts seeking to advance in the fast-casual restaurant industry.
