Job Description
Norwegian Cruise Line is a leading global cruise operator known for its innovative cruises and exceptional guest experiences. Among its notable fleet is the M/S Pride of America, a unique cruise ship that stands out as the first US-flagged cruise ship in almost fifty years. Launched in 2005, the Pride of America is particularly special because it is the only major cruise ship registered in the United States, specifically serving the Hawaiian market year-round. Its routes include popular destinations such as Honolulu, Kahului (Maui), Lahaina (Maui), and Nawiliwili (Kauai). This distinct status as a US-flagged vessel means that the ship must be staffed predominantly by a US crew, offering valuable job opportunities within the American maritime workforce.
The Pride of America operates with a dedicated crew of approximately 935 members, committed to creating memorable and seamless vacations across the stunning Hawaiian Islands. Norwegian Cruise Line’s emphasis on quality service, cultural respect, and environmental care is reflected in the ship's operations and crew engagement. As a full-time employee onboard, crew members can expect competitive wages, comprehensive training, and a chance to work within a diverse and dynamic team.
The current hiring drive is focused on filling a variety of vital shipboard roles including Assistant Cook (Prep Cook), Assistant Waiter, Laundry Personnel, Stateroom Attendant responsible for hotel room housekeeping, Utility staff handling janitorial services in both the galley and hotel areas, and Waiter positions. These roles require energetic and hospitality-focused individuals who possess recent, relevant experience in their respective fields. Working aboard the Pride of America is not only a job but an enriching experience involving teamwork, cultural exchange, and the adventure of living at sea in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.
Applicants must meet strict eligibility requirements, including having a High School Diploma or GED, being legally authorized to work in the U.S., and qualifying for the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) along with a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). The MMC certification requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, be either a US citizen or permanent resident alien, and pass a physical exam, drug screening, and background check to ensure safety and compliance at sea.
In return for their commitment, employees benefit from increased entry-level salaries with the potential for overtime pay, estimated minimum gross monthly earnings between $3,000 and $3,730 with a 56-hour workweek, gratuity pay eligibility, and substantial personal savings on room, food, and transportation, all of which are provided onboard. Additionally, paid training is offered along with access to friends and family discounts, enhancing the overall employment package.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to learn more by visiting the official Norwegian Cruise Line website dedicated to the Pride of America and are invited to participate in virtual job fairs. These events offer insights into shipboard life and work, followed by immediate one-on-one interview opportunities, making it easier and more accessible to connect with recruiters. Attending the presentation in its entirety is mandatory to be considered for an interview. This unique opportunity allows individuals to pursue a vibrant career at sea while enjoying the beauty and culture of Hawaii from the deck of the Pride of America.
