The role of the Cruise Director at American Cruise Lines is a pivotal and highly visible leadership position that centers on enhancing the guest experience throughout the journey. The Cruise Director is responsible for creating an engaging, fun, and welcoming atmosphere onboard by coordinating a variety of entertainment, events, activities, and presentations. In this full-time, exempt position, the Cruise Director reports directly to the Hotel Manager and works closely with other shipboard personnel, including the Excursions Director, guest speakers, instructors, and entertainers, to deliver a seamless and memorable cruise experience. The role includes the management of daily communications via multiple platforms such as shipboard daily programs, the public address system, and direct guest interaction. The Cruise Director also takes on responsibilities ranging from greeting guests during shore excursions to hosting officer introductions, safety briefings, and rebooking events aimed at promoting brand loyalty.

This position requires a candidate with previous cruise or upscale hotel/resort experience, a polished presentation style, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically. The ideal Cruise Director must possess a comprehensive understanding of audio-visual equipment, show production, and have a confident, outgoing personality with excellent time management skills. Additionally, the position involves working and living onboard the ship for 6 to 8 weeks with 1 to 2 weeks off, often requiring the ability to work long shifts of around 12 hours in an environment subject to constant motion from wind, waves, and currents.
