Job Description
Kaweah Health is a prominent community-based teaching hospital located in Visalia, California, a vibrant city known as the gateway to the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. This healthcare institution is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care while fostering a collaborative environment among its medical professionals. The hospital prides itself on delivering "better" in every sense — better care, improved collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to the community it serves. With a strong emphasis on patient-centered care and innovative clinical practices, Kaweah Health offers a dynamic workplace for healthcare providers eager to make a meaningful impact in a supportive, community-focused setting.
The role of a Nocturnal Critical Care Physician at Kaweah Health is an exciting and impactful opportunity tailored for physicians who are board-certified or board-eligible in critical care medicine (MD or DO). As a full-time nocturnist intensivist, you will be integral to the hospital's expanding critical care team, which is growing due to increased patient demand and program enhancement. Serving the intensive care unit during night shifts, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of 10 physicians and 4 advanced practitioners, contributing your expertise to both the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
This role involves managing critical patients overnight in a 21-bed MICU and a 20-bed CVICU, ensuring high standards of care under potentially challenging conditions. Kaweah Health emphasizes teamwork and utilizes advanced health technology, including the Cerner electronic medical record system, to maintain efficient and precise documentation and patient care communication. As a teaching hospital, it also offers the unique opportunity to engage with residents and trainees from Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Family Medicine, and Surgery, contributing to their education and professional development.
Living and working in Visalia offers a compelling blend of professional growth and quality of life. The region boasts a Mediterranean climate ideal for year-round outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and exploring nearby national parks like Kings Canyon and Yosemite. The cost of living remains reasonable with affordable housing options, excellent schools, and proximity to larger communities such as Fresno and Clovis. Additionally, Visalia’s central location provides convenient access to major cities within a few hours' drive.
Compensation for this position is competitive, with an hourly wage of $275 in a 1099 contractor status. The package includes a comprehensive range of benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage; a 401(k) plan with matching contributions; an annual CME allowance; commencement bonuses; and relocation assistance. Joining Kaweah Health as a Nocturnal Critical Care Physician means not just advancing your career but also becoming part of a healthcare team dedicated to excellence and community well-being.
