The role of Courtesy Clerk/Grocery Bagger is a vital position within Kroger's store operations. This role focuses on creating an outstanding customer experience by delivering exceptional service consistently. Courtesy Clerks are responsible for bagging groceries efficiently and safely, following best practices to ensure items are not damaged and bags are appropriately packed. They assist customers with loading groceries and are attentive to store cleanliness and organization, maintaining both a safe and welcoming environment.

As a Courtesy Clerk, you will not only facilitate smooth checkout processes but also interact warmly with customers, informing them of grocery specials and responding to product inquiries. This position involves various responsibilities including basic shelf stocking, removing products from carts for checkout, and ensuring orderly merchandise displays. Maintaining safety and compliance with food safety regulations is paramount, as is supporting the upkeep of the store’s appearance both inside and out.

Job Duties

  • Bag groceries at checkout for customers
  • Strive for at least five items per bag while ensuring no damage to contents
  • Follow best practices for bagging in reusable, plastic, and paper bags
  • Assist in removing customer's merchandise from the bottom of baskets
  • Offer help with loading bags into customers' cars
  • Perform basic shelf conditioning
  • Inform customers of grocery specials
  • Return merchandise to store shelves
  • Gather and return baskets to designated areas
  • Clean spills and collect trash inside store and parking lot
  • Clean all areas inside and outside the store
  • Handle and assemble seasonal merchandise
  • Understand store layout to locate products and conduct price checks
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures and reporting unsafe conditions
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting issues
  • Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment
  • Manage conflict reasonably and nonconfrontationally
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
