The position of Course Restaurant Support Staff at Southeast Community College is a part-time role designed to support the operations of the College's Course Restaurant, which serves as both an educational facility and a practical venue for culinary and hospitality students. Reporting directly to the Culinary/Hospitality Program Director and the Front of House Manager, this role involves assisting with various operational functions essential to the smooth delivery of restaurant services and the educational objectives of the program. The job is integral in sustaining the quality and hygiene standards that serve as examples for students, while also ensuring guest satisfaction and safety.

As a Support Staff member, the individual will perform a variety of duties such as assisting managers and chefs during service and educational courses, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the restaurant, sanitizing dishes and equipment, and setting up the restaurant for service. The role demands adherence to safety and sanitation standards, with the responsibility to help enforce the standards set forth by the Culinary/Hospitality program and the Great Plains Culinary Institute. The staff member will be instrumental in promoting a culture that values diversity and ownership in the workplace, fostering an inclusive environment where all participants feel respected and empowered.

Work schedules generally fall between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, with additional hours during banquets and special events. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Lancaster County food handlers permit by the first day of employment
  • ability to complete and keep current the Lancaster County food handler permit
  • ability to lift and carry up to fifty pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary
  • ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone
  • willingness to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • experience working in a restaurant
  • knowledge of and experience in quantity and quality food preparation, ingredient functions, recipe conversion, food cost control, and sanitation and safety standards
  • ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone
  • ability to use basic computer skills
  • knowledge of and ability to practice safe and sanitary food and equipment handling techniques

Job Duties

  • Assist the managers and or the chef in necessary activities needed in the restaurant service operations and educational program courses
  • maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary facility as an example for the culinary/hospitality program students and guests
  • ensure all equipment is clean and well-maintained
  • wash and sanitize dishes, cooking utensils, and food service equipment, practicing safe and sanitary methods
  • ensure the restaurant is properly set up for service
  • support and maintain the standards of the culinary/hospitality program, the great plains culinary institute, and the course restaurant
  • assist in performing the essential functions of co-workers' positions in their absence
