The institution is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment while providing rehabilitative programs that promote education, treatment, and restorative justice. CSP-Solano is recognized for its dedication to creating a professional and fulfilling workplace, emphasizing inclusivity and respect for diversity among staff and inmates alike. It is a full-time, permanent position located on-site, requiring various shifts and work schedules to meet operational needs.
The Correctional Supervising Cook position at CSP-Solano is a vital role within the correctional facility's food services department. This role involves supervising the preparation and quality control of meals to ensure standards for nutrition, sanitation, and safety are strictly followed. The Correctional Supervising Cook oversees all activities related to food preparation, ensuring that all meal items are present in the correct amounts and prepared under safe and hygienic conditions. The individual in this position also instructs and manages incarcerated persons in cooking duties, proper equipment usage, food handling, and sanitation to maintain compliance with institutional policies, Department Operations Manuals, and Food Services directives. This role demands excellent leadership capabilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to food safety and quality standards specific to the unique environment of a correctional facility.
Besides direct supervision of cooking activities, the Correctional Supervising Cook plays a key part in supporting CDCR's mission to foster safety, wellness, and dignity within the institution. This includes enforcing institutional procedures and ensuring that all food service tasks align with broader rehabilitative and restorative justice goals. The position offers a salary range of $4,586.00 to $5,639.00 per month, with new state candidates typically starting at the minimum salary. CSP-Solano also provides competitive benefits through the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and supports ongoing professional development. Candidates should have a strong background in cooking supervision, food safety, and experience working in structured environments, preferably within correctional or institutional settings. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a meaningful career in correctional food service with the stability and benefits of state employment. The department highly values teamwork, integrity, and the ability to work effectively within a correctional institution environment.
